Thanks for the update Jerry!

Nothing too crazy to digest there as it all makes sense. Woodson won’t land a program changer in the portal, he’ll get the sloppy seconds from the P4 schools. Maybe he’ll get a 18PPG from a mid major, that likely won’t transfer over to B1G.

Next year is a waste of time, nonetheless, it will allow Dolson to really evaluate who is a possible candidate. Maybe Brad Steven’s gets the itch again? We should get some transfer news early this week after player one on ones.

HS recruiting is dead for another year now. Nobody is going to sign in 2025 not knowing who will be. So the new coach will be stuck having to get portal guys. Not sure how Woodson thinks that's leaves us in a better place.

It is and we waste money, scholarships, and time. But, Indiana dug their own grave on this mess. It was easy to predict from Day 1 that Woodson would fail to live up to the standards at Indiana. The administration has no one else to blame but theirselves.

So, in the BoT’s “wisdom”, the chosen path to success is to try to get an incredible level of talented players who are willing to take money to play in a terrible system under a mediocre coach, then somehow overachieve and perform at an elite or championship level. Which would require Woodson to suddenly do everything he has failed to do in three years. Then, even if it were miraculously successful, it would be completely unsustainable. Or, if it’s not successful, they’ll fire him later for the same things they’ve already decided he deserves to be fired for now, they’re just not ready to do it yet.

As opposed to making a change now and getting a coach who has the skills and experience to get started now, and do this in a proven and more successful way.

Sounds like a great plan… what could go wrong?

God help us…these people don’t know what the ______ they are doing, IMO.

Or....bare with me. The people saying all of this stuff don't know either. I assume the administration thinks this is the best move going forward or if not a change will be made as soon as our candidate is available. Looks like option 1 but I'm sorry the logic laid out tonight is either wrong or so astoundingly stupid that we may as well give up all hope on IUBB.

This would be true if Indiana hadn't systematically lowered the standards for the past 25 years. But the Mike Woodson Experience was a failure from Day One. And yes, this whole cluster**** is on Buckner and the BoT for foisting it on us and Dolson and the school administration for allowing it to happen.

First thing's first, congrats to the IU women on the 4-seed and hosting opportunity. Tough draw, but they call it madness for a reason. Secondly, love you guys and this community, but goodness you're not shy about using the private message feature. Sorry for ghosting many of you but easier to just post publicly.

And, now that I've effectively buried the lead, Woodson is back next year with a couple caveats and interesting details:

- Meeting Tuesday happened as scheduled and talk was future of the basketball program and specifically how Woody fits in that plan

- Though Dolson and BoT disagree about it happening now, consensus was that this isn't the bridge hire they'd hoped for and this is his last year barring some miracle B1G championship or FF run next year that would make for bad optics.

- Woodson was given the opportunity to retire and go out amicably but said no and that he thinks he can use the portal to put us in a better position to transition to another coach after next year.

- Dolson laid out expectations for portal results and win/loss results next season that would result in letting Woody go; just my opinion but it sounds like Buckner, boosters, etc. got him the 4th year but Scotty Dolson has his finger on the eject button and Woodson knows it. Fully expect him to announce a "planned retirement" next year so he can go out on his "own terms"

- For what it's worth, Dolson did put out feelers and got positive feedback on interest from 2 of his top 3 potential replacement candidates; think we can get May with a text message, Pearl has serious interest but wouldn't make a move if his team makes a FF run or wins a natty.

- I think we as a fanbase/board are higher on Dusty than the administration/BoT; sounds like they're only interested in a homerun hire, win now guy if they do move and risking a third straight miss isn't something they're willing to do and just because he has IU ties and made a good tourney run, feeling is May isn't a guarantee at this level.

That's what I've got that I'm able to share comfortably right now. Not what myself or anybody on this board probably wants to hear. Moral is one more year is 95% likely (everyone root for UCONN in the S16, and a miracle!) It's kind of messy internally and they're trying to move on to get IU back to a top tier program while letting Woodson ride into the sunset having left the program in a good place and "stepping aside" for the good of the program. ??

Thank you so much for sharing what you can without burning your sources.

Not at all surprised Dolson is ready to move on and that the money and power is holding this up.  Sounds like the money and power is more concerned about Mike Woodson than Indiana University.  It’s ridiculous we are just throwing a year away for nothing.  I wish this could get out to all the fan base and see how much dollars IU could lose next year if fans stopped supporting the program for a year. The only thing we are doing is buying players to come right now.  High school recruiting is dead for this current year and next.

I am surprised that they are not as high on Dusty May as we are.  I also wonder who the 3rd person was.  Also surprised you guys are using the private message tool ha lol.  I might have to look into that lol.  Hopefully Dolson lets his finger slip and hits the eject button.  This is nuts lol.

This whole “fix it in the portal” strategy seems flawed for several reasons with two of them being:

- It seems to presume that talent was the problem and getting talent will fix the problem. I’m not at all convinced of that. Even if we end up with more or better talent, it may still flounder in a flawed system.

-It also seems to be based on the presumption that better or more talent can actually be obtained from the portal, which I’m also not at all convinced of.

Point one is mostly true because no one gave Woodson a team of 5-star athletes. He cannot win (or even compete) with "regular" recruits. For the 23-24 season, Woodson had THREE 5-star athletes, and more total combined stars than any other team in the B1G and he managed to finish 10-10 in the league. "Underachieving" is an understatement. And this was mostly due to poor roster construction - no guards of shooters on this team.

Point two is pretty damning evidence of his ongoing miscalculations. True, the Cooks and the Simons have basically given Woodson their open checkbooks to rent talent for next year. But every possible portal recruit will weigh Indiana against other suitors - both in terms of NIL money and playing for the coach (within said coach's system). I expect Woodson to have a tremendous uphill battle landing them based on his history of coaching success at Indiana.

Buckle up, guys. It's going to be a long, hard 12 months.

Reading a facebook thread….Bruce Peal is really liked/loved by SEC fans.  Tennessee fan remembered him as a student…high energy and would come into lunch room and talk to students at all the tables.  High compliments from KY, Tennessee, Florida, Arkansas, Bama, LSU and of course Auburn fans….lot of love for him.

I would be thrilled with Pearl. The guy can coach and has won everywhere.

It also makes zero sense from the point of him wanting to hand over the program in better position. Any transfer he does get could just transfer right back out after a coaching change. And if we get a top level coach, he can probably bring in better talent than Woodson anyway. There just simply is no upside but I don’t think there’s any chance he gets fired this year. He would have to step down. If he has a bad portal season we won’t know until late May/early June. It’s too late to make a move at that point. Other candidates then balking bc they couldn’t hit the portal. So next season will be ridden out with Woody to appease his ego and his buddies.

If theres any chance pearl would come here, for anything $ reasonable..we are idiots for not jumping on it the moment he's done this year at Auburn.

Well Woodson couldn't make a FF with the Globetrotters so if that's true then he's gone. If he won't retire and a move needs made there's no reason to give him another year, making the whole plan stupid.

That plan would effectively burn high school recruiting and the next coach would have to start from scratch, unless they think the guy that had to be told to go to sectionals will suddenly do that part of his job.

Appreciate the input but just kind of reinforces what I already thought that Buckner etc are putting Woodson over the program.

I would love to have Pearl on the sidelines.

If he struggles during portal season could a move this year be made?

I'm not sure why you'd do it at that time. The incoming coach would be seriously handicapped and some coaches who might otherwise be interested might not want that first year. They pretty much need to decide soon or wait, imo.

I'm not particularly high on May, I'd take him over Woodson but I'd rather see more out of him first.

For your sake don't use the PM function lol

This admin needs to understand “poo or get off the pot”.

A program in limbo is in the dead zone.

A P5 program needs a leader that builds momentum in all facets and obviously HS recruiting.  Energy, enthusiasm etc..

If this info is true, this is a disaster plan imo.
