I understand that situation and it does not change anything.  In fact it could actually hurt the situation as he knows what things could be and sees clearly that they are not going back to those days.

A vote of confidence after the season would be devestating to the future of the program. But I suppose the program has been dead for around 7-8 years. The last two NCAA appearances were not inspiring whatsoever.

Why wait and see if a fluke shot or bad draw knocks you out early if you are May? He’s time is now.

I kinda think the same. 

People on here keep saying that we should get Pearl for 6-7 years, then go get Dusty May after he's picked up some seasoning at a P5 school and (presumably) had some success. Some seem to think Dusty's a basset hound and if we dangle a cookie -- whether it's now or in 5 years -- he'll come running with his tail wagging and jump right into our laps. 

If I'm Dusty and think the time is right to move, I might wait to see what IU does after the season. And if Woody is let go and we move in another direction (i.e. Bruce Pearl), I'm taking the OSU job or Michigan job or Louisville job if offered. And if IU calls me in 5 years, I say "You had your chance." 

Don't forget: RMK was an Ohio State guy. He had chances to return to Columbus -- and didn't. It's not like the second we call, Dusty May will drop everything and come running. Especially if we've already passed on him.

Yup. Because he's 47, his buyout is very reasonable, and because he's really good.

I'll clearly state my opinion again about Dusty May; he's the best-case scenario guy, and that includes if Bruce Pearl were an option. A real chance to get the right guy for 20+ years is worth a slight roll of the dice.

Yeah I think they are. Both are former managers so they have a connection. Dusty visited with the athletic department last year after the final four run.

I agree with this.

Anyone else remember the old Perry Mason TV show? They would go through the whole story up to the trial, and then bring out a piece of heretofore unknown information which surprised and caught everyone off-guard, and often showed the prior "evidence" to be wrong.

It was always annoying as heck, but they did it over and over. Sound familiar?

I’m in the camp that if he’s good enough for OSU, forget the “let him cook for 5 years”.He has the same # of FF’s as Pearl, just pull the trigger and hire May, cheaper buy out so can probably be easier to convince boosters, etc

Seriously I'm done with being a fan if May goes to OSU and we run it back with Woodson.

I can only stomach May to OSU if we end up with someone proven like Oats or Pearl.

Well, between Zeke, Wittman, Woodson and Kitchel, here's their history as coaches... only Kitchel doesn't have a losing record in the NBA and College (he never coached)... take it for what it's worth... but I'd be hard-pressed to follow their collective recommendation for a coach with a winning record:

I would like to think, that if there was any doubt was Dolson's mind that Pearl might not happen, he wouldn't let Dusty get away. So if Dusty does go to OSU, (totally me assuming here) that would mean that either Dolson has 100% confidence in Pearl or Woody will be back.
