Uspshoosier Posted October 20, 2023 Posted October 20, 2023 Once this one was narrowed down this one was viewed as a coin flip between the 2 teams by mostly everyone that follows it. I can only give it from my point of view but this was relayed by multiple outlets. Kentucky slightly ahead was reported by some but not enough info at the time to put in a pick by any. Clearly someone leaked something. If you get invested in following the recruiting of 17-18 year old kids prepare yourself that no fail proof formula out there to predict where they will go. Gather all information you can from multiple angles and make your own conclusions. Going into the Mcneeley recruitment everything pointed to where that one was going. Flands was always more cloudy and uncertain. Woody wanted a seat at the table and that’s what he got. Hate Cal all you want but the guy has a heck of a sales pitch to lead guards. Big win for Cal unless something changes go iu bb, lillurk, woodenshoemanHoosierfan and 1 other 4 Quote

I love my Knicks but not sure I want Quickly because of the money he’s demanding vs the actual product on the court. They still went to Kentucky and that's what the kids see. But Trilly put the nail in the coffin here. Woody will have to work his butt off on another recruit or go hard in the portal. Stromboli 1 Quote

Not just because it's the right thing to do, but we also shouldn't burn bridges with Fland if/when Calipari leaves UK after the 2023/2024 season. If he doesn't get to a Final 4 with this incoming class, they'll run him out of town. With the way the past few seasons have gone at UK, the rails will come off at the first sign of adversity this season, aka losing a few early games. ronzo4IU Posted October 20, 2023 Posted October 20, 2023 What I don’t get is that is something definitely was leaked, why would these people want to steal boogies thunder by advertising it before he announces it? What’s the point of a specific announcement at a specific time and keeping things close to the vest if this is what happens. Quote

Dave from Dayton Posted October 20, 2023 Posted October 20, 2023 Marketing a delayed intangible is a really gut-wrenching job. If the seller cannot use persuasive closing and get a signature immediately does anyone except the buyer really know what will happen later? I found that in the case of a delayed intangible, the entity with the longest track record and success and a larger market share is hard to beat. Personalities can help a lot. Finding out what makes the buyer tick is paramount. And doing that with 18-years old recruits and family would be a challenge. Buyers seem to gravitate to the known entity. Gotta find one's own nitch...and scratch and develop and get back up and do it again...and again. Become the known entity in your market. Pointing to Fino and TJD does seem compelling. Compare that to the successes of others. Good luck Coach Woody and staff. It ain't over until it's over. HinnyHoosier, Adillac, Stromboli and 1 other 4 Quote

Some incontrovertible takeaways IMO: Love the strategy of the staff - shoot for the best of the best early, and backfill with de-commits and the portal when necessary. Related to point 1; it's not who you miss on, it's who you eventually get. A one 5* star week would be an incredible week for recruiting, even if there was potential for a two 5* week. "Trilly Donovan" has a great track record, but unless Trilly is Fland's papa (he's not) he could also be misled. So Trilly Donovan's track record is simply another piece of evidence. Nothing should ever be considered 'conclusive' beyond the official announcement. Listening to the new Rolling Stones album ... it's (surprisingly) pretty damn good, though Mick is starting to sound a little too much like PIL era Johnny Rotten. go iu bb and Artie86 2 Quote
IUrocker Posted October 20, 2023 Posted October 20, 2023 Someone saw that Boogie has recently followed Clif Marshall on social media and couldn’t recall noticing him being on there before, so hopefully that could be something.
