Sent from my iPad using BtownBanners mobile app I don't want to speak out of turn, but Dennis has been very open about his mental health journey. Here is a really good piece that he and Wylie Glover (Wichita State softball player) did for #Pow6rfulMinds: https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=1228426027580777 . I sincerely hope that the abrupt dropping of his twitter account has nothing to do with his mental well being. I know that sometimes what people write online can have an effect on people's mental state -- I know that I am guilty of it both giving and receiving on occasion. Full disclosure: I recently deleted my own twitter account as it was becoming a rabbit hole of negativity. I will always pull for anyone that gives back with their mental health stories to help others. I have had to deal with my own issues of depression and anxiety and wouldn't wish those issues on my worst enemy. Dennis seems like an incredibly great role model both on and off the court and I hope that comments made (I know I've made them myself) about how he would/wouldn't fit at IU he hasn't taken personally. Just my opinion, I think at this point Dennis would like to commit to IU and the staff would love to have him. It's just a matter of making the scholarship situation work out and that could come to what happens with a couple of other moving parts. Mike Woodson is a wise mentor. When he says he wishes players would greatly restrict social media he's not just being averse to new concepts, he's speaking from a point of experience and wisdom. There's a reason that the moderators restrict personal insults and political stuff on this board. We want a place to talk IU sports without it becoming a free-for-all of social media negativity. It's a semi-social media place, but it takes the attention of multiple people to keep it that way. A 20 year old doesn't have that mechanism or that luxury on Twitter. jonz44, cthomas, 8bucks and 3 others 6 Quote

I wouldn’t be so confident to say “contributor” he very well could be at the end of the bench next to those guys. How does one win defensive player of the year and not make any of the regular first, second, third team all-conference selections? Because he is a one way player and that’s not what we need. im also not confident his defense will translate to that same level in the bigten - he’s not used to playing against a BigTen level schedule CSP 1 Quote

I am very interested in IU men's basketball regaining competitiveness at the top of the B1G and the NCAAT. Having said that, I wonder if IU basketball coaches are getting tripped up by the Student-Athlete Bill of Rights. Specifically: . A four-year scholarship commitment regardless of injury, illness or athletic performance. In other words, a coach can't take away scholarships if players aren't good enough or are injured. Glass seemed to emphasize to Archie Miller that churning athletes was not going to happen at IU. I do like the image that the administration seems to be giving our current coaches more support. But is there a divergence of goals and policy here? Has the Bill of Rights been put on the back burner? Support the athletes. And support IU basketball resurgence. Can we have both? Quote

Bill of rights just means IU will still pay for their education at IU they just wouldn’t be part of the team anymore. I’m guessing in every case the player will look elsewhere to play Dave from Dayton, Hippopotamo, thebigweave and 2 others 4 1 Quote

Archie had like 7 unfilled roster spots over the span of his 4 years, and was seemingly struggling to get what he did. Archie was never in position to churn and push out players. AZ Hoosier 1 Quote

Sent from my iPad using BtownBanners mobile appEverything around this recruitment seems a little…dramatic…? Not a knock on DD as he seems like a good person from what others say, but definitely a little different than the persona of a few of our current players (JHS, TJD, Race, Reneau, etc). RaceToTheTop Posted April 27, 2022 Posted April 27, 2022 I had read from a big Wichita State fan the other day that the Shockers were looking to put a competitive NIL package together for him. Considering that they've had like 9 players enter the portal, there is less competition for their NIL money. Quote

We know him, great kid, my son used to train with him here outside Houston Yes, he entered the portal....one of nine players from Wichita State to do so. It's a pretty good group in the portal. Among them: Udeze, 6'8" forward, one year of eligiblity left: 25 minutes/game, 10.2 ppg, 6.1 rpg Ricky Council, three years left: 6'6" wing, 27 mpg, 12.0 ppg, 5.4 rpg Dexter Dennis, one year left: 6'5" wing, AAC defensive player of the year, 8.4 ppg, 5.0 rpg Tyson Etienne, Wichita's leading scorer, decided to turn pro and hire and agent. He won't be drafted and is probably an overseas candidate. Should be noted that Craig Porter recently entered the portal and quickly withdrew his name from the portal -- after Wichita State put together an NIL deal. Wichita State has quickly put together an NIL collective with Armchair Strategies. Porter will receive a car in a deal with a local insurance firm, a signing bonus with Armchair Strategies, and other opportunities with local businesses. Looks like Wichita State is trying to play catch up -- four of their players already have transferred elsewhere but their higher end transfers (Udeze, Council, Dennis, and Porter) have not signed elsewhere yet. My guess is Dennis is being offered a deal similar to Porter's -- Porter averaged 7.3 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 3.6 assists but has a decent upside with three years of eligibility left. Could be that Dennis ends up back at Wichita State. HoosierHoopster and lillurk 2 Quote
RaceToTheTop Posted April 28, 2022 Posted April 28, 2022 REALLY nice shooter in the portal now -- Umoja Gibson of Oklahoma. Will actually be playing his sixth year (he played two years his first year before being injured and then receiving a redshirt. He played three years at North Texas before transferring to Oklahoma and playing his next two years. For Oklahoma last year, he averaged 13.3 points per game. He's a bulk three point shooter -- took 6.7 threes per game last year to match his career 6.7/game averaged. For his career, he has made 339 out of 857 from three (40%). Career 41/40/83 shooter. Was honorable mention all-Big 12 last season. MikeRoberts and lillurk 2 Quote
