Rob Cassidy and Jason Jordan on Queen's recruitment in light of us landing Liam.

Cassidy:  I’m not sure if Indiana will ultimately land Derik Queen or not, but Liam McNeeley’s pledge adds more legitimacy to a program that is already seeing momentum snowball from a perception standpoint. If turning fellow Montverde Academy alum Jalen Hood-Schifino into a one-and-done lottery pick was the foundation of a new era at Indiana, beating Kansas and Texas for McNeeley was the drywall. There’s power in seeing somebody close to you buy into something, and Queen has had a front row seat. Groupthink goes a long way to putting a mind at ease, after all. Maryland will be a bear to topple here because of the longstanding relationships in place, but the Hoosiers are very much in play, and the McNeeley situation has to have given them some level of boost.

Jordan:  I think it helps, but I don’t know that Derik is sitting down with his family weighing the pros and cons of his decision and writing “Liam’s there” on Indiana’s side. I’ve seen situations like these up close and personal over the years and it’s never a real factor in the end. That said, it’s another voice in Queen’s ear for Mike Woodson, and that actually could make an impact. Now, does that impact tip the scale to Bloomington? I think Maryland will have a lot to say about that. If this drags on I could see McNeeley’s inevitable pitches landing more firmly, but Queen will be in College Park this weekend and if this is a topic for our roundtable, please know that it’s been thrown around at Kevin Willard’s staff meeting as well. Expect all stops to be pulled out for Queen on a visit made for a king.

Wonder if there’s any NIL silver lining for Queen with Boogie making another move. I.e. is there a “target B” NIL package that Boogie would’ve been in line to pursue that now slides to Queen? We’ll never know, I guess.

I’ll preface by saying I don’t think our NIL is anything to scoff at, BUT my guess would be if Maryland is serious about a kid, the Under Armour dude can beat nearly anyone on that front.

Probably so!

That said.....Hunter Dickinson was thought to be a Maryland lean and he was looking for NIL money.  And he wasn't ever close to signing with them....they were at least a distant third behind Kentucky and Kansas.

See I’m having a hard time with this statement. If true, we would do a lot better on the recruiting trail if so. Now, I’m not saying it’s terrible but there are schools seeing much stronger results. Now part of this is, we haven’t been relevant for 10+ years (I know it’s been longer but ****, this statement is hard to say.)

And that's the problem with NIL and the absolute joke that is the NCAA. NIL isn't supposed to be a recruiting tool. Yet here we are, and the NCAA is too weak and stupid.

I think the NIL helps us more than hurts us though.

Sure. My point is that NIL isn't supposed to be talked about with a recruit at all. It ain't supposed to be a tool to bring in guys. It's a resource they can use when they hit campus because a business feels that player is worthy and/or can help market that business. NIL getting absolutely abused and the NCAA is too stupid to step in and make any sort of standards.

Nil is a starting point for many recruits.  Its the get into the game prerequisite.

I was shocked to learn about players getting paid to take OVs.  It's one thing to be pampered and treated, which is the expectation, but being paid to take them wasn't something even I considered early on.  That one kinda blew my mind.  Coaches paying players directly out of their salary was an interesting one too.  School's find creative ways to get advantages.

As far as Queen goes, IDK.  I like him and hope he picks IU.  He has a bit of a Reneau style around the rim.  They can definitely play together though.

I have trouble believing the billionaire Maryland superfan, who no longer is involved in UA decision-making and already has been known to show up to Maryland football recruiting activities, doesn't have money to put toward landing a 5-star DMV kid.

I won’t allow me to believe anything else but Maryland and don’t care what Trilly, crystal balls or anyone else says lol.

Indeed. Fool me once, shame on you... fool me twice, shame on me. Not biting on any speculation at this point. We will know when Queen announces and signs.

To quote Norman Dale, "my team is on the floor".

On NiL and few comments above

I don’t think under armor has much to be throwing around now days. That brand has been in big trouble for years now.  They have pulled way back just to stay afloat.

Maryland has said to have saved all their NiL for Queen. Yes, I am sure good chunk of Boogie allocation will now go to Queen but not sure he is as marketable and we also have to save some funds for portal. So we will see.

if you read all the tea leaves etc our NIL is solid but not quite upper tier. That is why you see the Alabamas of the world in on everyone. Facilities don’t hurt either. With that said, don’t think Maryland is one of those players either.

summarizing, I don’t think NIL wins or losses this one.

I don't really think we get Queen however everything that I've read would say that we do have an upper tier NIL situation probably right below Duke, Kansas, Kentucky, Arkansas (walton money). I have a hard time believing some of the guys we recently landed would go somewhere without an upper tier NIL situation.

Indiana basketball coach Mike Woodson is expected to see 5-star class of 2024 center Derik Queen at Montverde Academy in Florida today , according to http://Peegs.com sources.

Cool!

Means that we are still in the hunt. Also probably means that a decision is coming soon.
