Since this thread is dedicated to the prospect of obtaining Stevens for many, many years and it's a lot of speculation, let's talk about what happens WHEN it happens. Name me a better profile than this for a CBB HC:

  • Proven strategic coach that can win at any level (enter, Butler)
  • Makes ballers out of players (Enter, Hayward)
  • Beautiful in-game tactician
  • Moralistic side of me: GREAT human
  • NBA ties (hello, recruiting)
  • Indiana kid with Indiana ties
  • Strikes absolute fear into every program in the country, top to bottom
  • Kids will be, in my opinion, lining up to play for him just based on how he wins and who he knows. He never had that at Butler.
  • Could build the most powerful bench strength in assistance known to CBB

Just thought this would be fun. Help me add to it...it will help pass the time.

What his Butler teams struck me most was how hard they played. They were certainly lesser talented but relentless and didn't easily give up.

One interesting thing I read today about Stevens' time at Butler is that he said that he would never recruit a one-and-done, with the only exception possibly being someone who promised to finish his degree. Will be interesting to see if that carries over to IU.

Of course, if the one-and-done rule is revoked as expected, it might not matter.

Good post,  I think he will get a higher caliber player at IU than he did at butler but still don't see him wanting to deal with a bunch of one and done players.

He recruited Cody Zeller. Obviously he stayed two years, but could’ve left after 1.

He may have to switch that philosophy due to the Big Ten, IF he comes to IU

A flight coming out of the airport the Celtics use is interesting, but could be nothing also.  As much as I want Stevens, swinging like that would be out of character with how this program has been run for 20 years so I've definitely got some skepticism.

I'd lean towards Matta or Beilein as more likely but being out of coaching currently either could've locked up by now I'd think if IU really wanted them.

I don't see why, with Matta or Beilein, additional money from a 2nd donor would be needed. Neither has a "buyout" involved, and neither is in a position to demand the kind of salary Brad or Beard could, given their time away from college coaching.
