I don’t particularly want Beilein, even if it includes a top assistant as head coach in waiting. I’d be open to Matta if he is physically okay.

I want Oats, Musselman, Beard or of course our Great White Buffalo.

FWIW, Rick Bozich claims he was told Scott Drew is “extremely unlikely”. Make of that what you will.

That actually gives me a lot of hope! We are doing this search at the right time. Tournament may be in Indiana, and we may not be playing, but we will still be the talk of the tournament. I love it!

Have been thinking the same this week, any publicity is good publicity I guess?

IU should be a top five job, and after the disaster that was the Archie Miller era, any coach who can get us back to the sweet 16 I’ll be seen as a savior. We all want to win titles again, but can expectations are lower than they were after we fired Crean. We have to get back to the tournament first before we can think about titles.

What does that mean

8:45ish mark of the latest Assembly Call podcast he says that he was told by a friend of Scott Drew’s that him coming to IU was extremely unlikely. Who knows.

We want to think Indiana is a top job but we interviewed and hired one guy last time and he was a mid major coach.

things have gotten worse. Has the job increased in value over the years? Ehhh...

Has an NBA coach ever left mid season to take a college job? Curious if this is a possibility.

Can't think of one and yes, it would be a possibility.

We had an incompetent dork for our athletic director last time. Plus, Archie was considered a really good hire at the time.

IMO...The job has never stopped being valued, but perhaps McRobbie's emphasis on academics limited what the AD could do and with him on the way out and Dolson, a true IU guy who "gets it"..well as Dylan sang.. maybe        the times they are a changing!

That was a terrible job by the AD. He settled on the first guy he liked. I heard that part of it was Freddy didn’t like to fly so he didn’t want to travel and interview multiple candidates plus I think he had a search firm involved too which Dolson isn’t doing.

Just running through some thoughts here..

Brad Stevens left Butler for one of the top spots of all of basketball

He stated he grew up watching Knight and IU was a dream job

It was rumored he didn’t like recruiting in college, although he shot that down

I believe at one point IU reached out to him but he said he wouldn’t talk unless there was an opening

007 posted that he was contacted before but wouldn’t “answer the door” but this time “he answered the door and listened”

Dolson stated today that they haven’t talked to any potential candidates

A donor gave $10 mil to part ways with Archie (would they need guarantees who the next coach is for that sum of money?)

Another donor has agreed to pay for some other costs associated with the coaching change

Has Brad listened to what the plan is and decided he could build something at IU?

Has 8 years in the NBA given him enough cred that he can recruit at an extremely high level in college?

It’s interesting the words chosen by Dolson when others inside the program have stated otherwise.

I truly doubt IU would be able to convince Brad the timing is right but things could fall into place.

I’m still thinking it’s Beilein or similar.

Just did a little digging and found that Larry Brown left the Nets near the end of the season (with a 47-29 record) to head to Lawrence, KS.

Led them to a title a few years later...
