Yep really odd. A D2 guy and it had to be tight lipped.

Would try to keep it tight lipped no matter who it is I’d assume. Hopefully Dolson can beat out Iowa for likely the best coaching prospect available this cycle. If he doesn’t and we get someone very uninspiring, lol

So is Medved and there are people that already know he is taking Minnesota? So many people have said this is one of the tightest searches theyve seen.

I don't buy that is because he is coaching a team personally

Wasn't it pretty well known that Holloway was talking to Seton Hall about their opening while in the middle of the St. Peter's run a couple years ago?

It happens all the time, at least through backchanneling.

This is probably a lazy take but outside of age, I’m getting strong Cignetti vibes from McCollum. Supremely confident in himself and his system, no BS, the standard is the standard, production over potential.

I know the tempo is a red flag…. But outside of that, I think his style is EXACTLY what Indiana fans want. Defensive-minded, constant motion offensively, relentless effort on both ends. I know it’s not as modern, but that’s the kind of team we can be proud of.

(Purdue sucks!… But so does Michigan & Ahia State!)

Tempo and never being a part of a power program. Cig had experience with Saban at Alabama and a few other places. I'm not against McCollum but I'm far from convinced he's the next great championship winning coach.

he's just a guy that does funny bits on twitter. i think him and btownmoose were behind shaloobies and probably the kangaroo that was loose in bloomington. if you don't know what either of those two things are, I'm probably (see: definitely) too online.

Ok I recognize that profile now.

Shaloobies may be the greatest thing the internet has produced.

Yeah exactly!! I am not convinced that it is been this tight lipped and the hire ends up being BM. It may not be Brad Stevens very possible, but you don't run this tight of a ship for a guy with one year of D1 experience. I still believe in Scott.

He seems loyal to his players. Maybe he told Dolson he doesn’t want distraction and wants to tell them first.

I guess the biggest question at this point is one of three:

1. Does Dolson already have his man (and has for a while)?

2. Is he just putting the finishing touches on a deal in place and waiting for the end of that coach's season to announce?

3. Is he in scramble/panic mode?

Agree and would add that McCollum has consistently developed point guards, in an echo of Cignetti and QBs.

Did a little more research, Fran's buyout just north of 4 million. signed an extension in 2021 through 2028. On the hook for 60% percent of the base salary for every year left on the contract payable through the remaining years so about 1.4 million a year for the next 3 years. That's not pennies on the dollar from what people say about Iowa financially. Add that to DeVries 4.6 buyout and the rumors of his concern with Iowa's NIL as it is plus rev share with Mens Football and Womens Bball I think Iowa will look elsewhere IMO.

Maybe those NIL and Rev share things mentioned above drives McCollum to pursue IU instead of Iowa ? a possibility but if I had to bet if its not DeVries its McCollum for the Hawkeyes. if DeVries is not announced to Iowa by Thursday then IMO its McCollum

Just a fantastic contribution to the board, keep the negativity coming big guy! Curious, what are your sources saying? What are your takeaways on the search? Who do you want it to be and why? How about the roster make up for next year, any thoughts? Holler if I can help you draft a post with actual substance.

I’m not excited about either. HOWEVER, how can you make somebody take a job that they aren’t interested in. I’m sure Scott threw the kitchen sink at “big names”. If we don’t have one on the sideline next year, it’s likely not due to a lack of a plan or effort.

The reality check for many of us will be that IU basketball simply isn’t the job we think it is after years of bad basketball.

Maybe, just maybe, it isn’t that IU basketball isn’t the job people think it is, maybe college basketball isn’t what we think  it is. Maybe NO university has the attraction it once had to snap their finger and get whoever they deem as the guy.

It’s becoming obvious there’s a strong inverse relationship between the quality of one’s sources/info and how sensitive they are to any ounce of criticism.
