Oh he's nowhere near the top of my list but I'd take him over Brownell (Bronwell) and Turgeon. Probably take him over a few others out there as well.

"Doing more for the coaching profession since 1970, than Mike Woodson".

Monrovia boy here born and raised. My Great Grandfather and Great Grandmother are Buried about 50 yards away from Branch. Beautiful little Cemetery that sits up on a hill in scenic Hall, Indiana . Always thought they should add a little bit more of a small Monument, Statue or something for him.

My number 1 candidate this cycle

He isn’t the sexiest name for many, but I think he wins the most out of this cycle in the right spot.  I also think the way his teams play is sustainable in the B1G.  Not the easiest conference to transition to.

Why would Dolson tell a reporter then tell them to keep it quiet? That just doesn't make sense. Instead of telling the reporter who it is, he could tell them that he'll let them know first so they can be the one to break it. Much less risk of it accidentally being shared that way.

I think the quid pro quo was understood. Keep it quiet, but be first to break. Particularly with Stevens, that first article would go mega viral instantly (likely several would given the magnitude of news like that, but its always good to be first lol).

Tell me there is a family member of Branch's named Phil buried nearby...

Just curious how Beard has his own thread and Stevens doesn't? lol

Feel free to start one. Why do people keep asking why he doesn't have his own thread then not start it themselves?

Compiling a list of potentials who are NOT coaching currently......

Bennett

Wright

Turgeon (God help us)

next?

These would also fit the criteria of a guy no one is discussing and a veteran coach looking for a challenge.

Self

Few

Beilein

Here’s what I think. Reporters trusted by the AD know who the hire is—a small select number. And they’ve been asked to hold the story and just discuss other candidates until a set time—probably once senior day is done and the lights turned out in the Hall on Saturday. No more home games, no need to protect Woodson’s ego after that point. With the terrible risk of sounding like isaacTor, I guess—based on nothing but reading between the lines— that around 8 Saturday night Bozich and a handful of guys that are trusted in the AD will simultaneously start breaking stories about rumors of who this “veteran” coach is. I might be totally wrong, but I think “we got him.” Who else could this veteran guy be?

No reporter would ever sit on that story if they had it.

My point is instead of picking up the phone and telling the reporter he can go public with the information now, he could just as easily pick up the phone and tell them it'll be ______, you can make that public. They still get to be first without the risk of giving them the info in advance.

Another history guy here, 1832 is one of my favorite years. Any guesses?

The Andrew Jackson era?  The fight over the National Bank (we just did that in class two days ago).

Yes a little one sided it’s ok if it’s something they want to hear but not if it’s something they don’t. LOL I am fine with it the Beard talk was getting old. I am pulling for Stevens number uno.

Okay, I know nothing, but I’m going out on a limb here. Just read Bozich’s most recent column. I’ve been reading Bozich since he was with the Louisville Courier Journal way back in the 80s. I’ve found him to be discreet, trustworthy, and an IU guy—which means he is kind of a company guy like Don Fischer who has been able to cover IU through the years and not tick administration or Bobby Knight off back in the day. In said column,  He goes through all the names we’ve been discussing lately—(with no mention of BS). He gives all the positive and negatives of each—all well and good. Then he says he believes SD is gonna hire someone else, no one is talking about—not on the list he just gave. Okay, fine, some unknown guy? No—- he then describes this guy as a veteran coach looking for a new challenge to rebuild IU. Kent Sterling does a video and says the exact same thing. I know to take Bozich seriously and also know he is connected and values access and won’t cross the athletic department. In my mind, BS just went from a 1-2% likely to better than even odds. Here’s what I think. Reporters trusted by the AD know who the hire is—a small select number. And they’ve been asked to hold the story and just discuss other candidates until a set time—probably once senior day is done and the lights turned out in the Hall on Saturday. Could be Mark Turgeon...
