Ghost of Rick Majerus Posted February 21 Posted February 21 I had this theory last night when I was fighting my insomnia. I'm not saying I believe it, I'm just putting it out there. So the Woodson hire came out of left field 4 years ago. It was rumored that Dolson wanted Matta but he failed the physical, blah blah blah. Either way, Dolson had to know that neither of those guys were long term hires. If I remember correctly, Dolson even mentioned in an interview last year that he viewed Woodson as a sort of "bridge" hire and the next coach would be more of a long term solution. So this made me think. What if there really was legs to the Stevens talks last time as many here have said. What if Stevens did indeed say that the timing wasn't right but otherwise he would be interested. So Dolson decided to make a short term hire (Woodson or Matta) that would bridge the gap until Stevens was available to take the job. I say this because it is the only logical reason why you would hire somebody like Woodson. So if that insane theory of mine is correct, that would mean that Stevens is indeed the #1 candidate and that a possible agreement is in place. It would also mean that this 4 years of suffering under Woodson was all by design. Although, a short stint with Matta would have been preferable to Dolson, it just didn't materialize.
