If we end up with one of those 3 I'll be happy. If we end up Drew I'll be ecstatic. The other 2 are high enough up my list that I'd be overall happy with the hire. I've came around on Cronin.

Yeah... I think I would accept an immediate Tony Bennett hire, if only for the sake of getting the coaching hire over with. Bet IU has the resources to set up the kind of structure where he would only have to tend to the coaching aspects. Seriously; I think he could put in the same hours, doing the same things Woodson did, and win 25-30 games a year here.

Am coming more around on Drew. I've always been under the impression that they had plenty of resources to work with at Baylor, and that IU wouldn't be a massive step up in that regard, but that has likely changed with realignment. Think all three would do well here, though I'd prefer May because of the program ties.

I have a hard time believing he’s seriously a candidate. Why would he turn Kentucky down and be open to Indiana? Makes no sense. But then again, nothing coming out lately is connecting many dots. 

At this point, I think Dusty May is the best fit. I was skeptical last season and wanted Pearl but I admit I was wrong on May. What he’s doing this season at Michigan is special. He has checked every box emphatically. 
 

Something I thought I’d never say: I think I want May more than Stevens.

I was somewhat joking to see what kind of response it would get, but it was based on the flights that were tracked last week to and from Bloomington to Albuquerque, Miami, Philadelphia, and Boston.

Albuquerque - where Richard is coaching.  Miami - Rick is represented by CAA Sports, who has an office in Miami.  Philadelphia - St. John’s played at Villanova the night before that flight.  Boston - don’t have an angle on that one, but Richard was born there.  Maybe they needed his birth certificate or something?  lol.

If I’m a mega-donor I’m willing to pitch in for a big buyout IF it’s for an Oats or an Otzelberger but not for a Cronin. Either his buyout would need to be dramatically lowered or I would advocate for hiring someone like McCollum and putting more money into NIL instead.

Can't imagine Scott Drew will ever leave Baylor. If he ever does, it won't be a public university.

"Everything we do around the program is Christ-centered," he told CBN News. "The great thing is we can prepare champions for life. And that's a spiritual, academic, and character formation in athletics. So for us to be able to incorporate the spiritual part has been so key and paramount to all our success and He's blessed us."

When asked about the importance of religious freedom in America, Drew said he is glad to be at a Christian university where he can openly share his faith.

"Baylor University gives you that opportunity. Spiritually we're allowed to have an impact in our players' lives, so many of my coaching friends [that] are devout in their faith are at institutions where they can't," he explained. "I am a much better husband, father, spiritually I have grown from the staff that we have because we will do coach's bible studies together and we start every meeting in prayer."

Let's revisit the reasons why Dolson forced Woody into retirement mid season if he didn't feel comfy that he had his replacement. Just to shut fans up? Surely it wasn't to give heads up to the all the ADs to negotiate a contract extension with their current coaches. So if he didn't feel good he had someone locked up, im left to assume it was literally done to shut the fan base up with all the boos etc. Right or way off?

He’s a Butler grad and spend about half his life living in Indiana.  I’ve heard from people that know him over the years that if he were to ever leave Baylor that IU would be one of the very few, maybe the only job, that he would seriously consider.  A lot like Pearl.  Just feels a special connection to the state.  That said, I expect he’ll stay in Waco.

Coaches get "retired" or straight out fired during the season all the time. Almost never do the ADs at those schools already have the replacement already lined up and ready to go. They do it because it calms the fans and lets them get started on the search earlier. It might also salvage a season. Basically, it's what's best for the program without concern for what other schools may or may not do.

ADs (and the public in general) already have an idea of which jobs will open up at the end of the season. If they want to extend their current coach, it's not because they're panicking because a school got rid of their coach during the season. Was anyone surprised that Woodson won't be back next year? Other than Woodson, that is. Sometimes coaches turn coaching searches into ways to get raises/extensions. That'll happen regardless of when the other schools' coaches were fired.

In other words, I think people are reading too much into the timing behind Woodson's "retirement" announcement. It says nothing about whether IU had someone else ready to take the job or whether they were concerned about May getting an extension. 

I think in this case, it was partially to save Woodson from himself, to try to preserve some of his legacy. The booing would've just gotten worse.

Yep. UK made a huge run at him and he passed.  If he went with us that would be surprising, we are similar to UK, just in a college town and we have our teeth.

But, who knows, maybe the Indiana angle matters.
