No, he’s not

We left Indiana and moved to Michigan before high school, and my entire family on my mom’s side is from Michigan. My grandfather taught at UM. My mom went there. It’s basically the second place I’m from other than Indiana. All of my friends and family that follow CBB closely and are Michigan fans/alumni are not super excited about his post game comments and the fact there’s zero rumors of contract negotiations leaking out. They are very nervous.

Long winded way of saying I think you’re right he’s not working on an extension with UM, yet anyways.

Yep, he’s not entertaining anything with anyone until the season is over.

Going from Woodson to Mick would be an “upgrade”, but a complete downgrade to the program.

Might as well hire Tom Crean back if we’re not landing a big fish (Pearl, Stevens, May)

Bite ur tongue!  :)

There’s more of a comparison that you realize even though Brad didn’t go to IU

I get Brad's attachment. I'm just saying it's not like his dad coached on the staff or that Brad led IU to a Big Ten title and Rose Bowl.

He studied and worshiped Knight!

Understood. I wasn't trying to say that Stevens doesn't have ample reason to potentially want to come to IU. Just that it's a slightly different situation than Harbaugh who starred at UofM and grew up in Ann Arbor, and also was on the outs at his NFL job.

But, again, overall I still think it's a good analogy!

Did you grow up in Indiana?

Preface with I am not stumping for Cronin, just pointing out some stuff. The guy has won 70% of his games at every stop. Like remarkable consistency, that no one we’ve hired since RMK has had. Also people think UCLA has resources? That school is in the red and has notoriously bad NIL.

Again, I don’t really want him, but IU could do much worse than Cronin.

The school being in the red doesn't have much to do with resources--natural (like kids want to play there because it's LA and because they routinely have a pro presence) and manufactured (there's still an allure to UCLA, like with UNC, UK, etc.).

Their NIL wasn't good initially, but that's not the case any more.

I used to work in sports comms/marketing, and am fortunate to have firsthand experience and maintain contacts. Like with IU, UCLA has tarnished their brand some, but they have enough resources to make FFs with Ben, go to S16s with one Steve and win conference and conference tournaments with another Steve, etc. The coaches have changed but a level of success that IU hasn't been able to sustain has been achieved across multiple coaches.

UCLA is still a really, really good gig, and in my opinion Mick isn't producing enough to make me think he can elevate IU to where I'd like to see it.

No. Matt Painter did, and I doubt he's coming here, though.

The point is just it isn't an absolutely perfect analogy. There are also differences that run in the other direction. Harbaugh hadn't won a Super Bowl when he went back, while Stevens has won an NBA Championship, which favors us.

Question for someone that knows but when trying to interview an NBA person do you have to get permission from the organization or owner before interviewing the candidate? Just wondering since Brad is the President do we need to ask someone for a formal interview?

I’m sure another NBA team would have to but I doubt Dolson would need to nor should he.

If said program were to be able to interview an NBA President, hopefully they would do it with a HUGE bag of cash sitting on the table and plenty of YouTube videos from Indianas heyday to motivate and spark emotions!

I think if it’s outside the NBA, they don’t need permission. For example, Buck’s GM Horst was requested by the Pistons to be their GM and the Bucks immediately denied the interview last season.

Just make sure you ask the little miss to kindly step out so the big boys can talk.
