Well FWIW @IUGRAD06 says he knows for a fact McCollum and Dolson have been in touch since January.

It's possible (likely even) Dolson has been spending the last year + courting Stevens, Donovan, whoever big whales.

I think Dolson, to his credit, also probably realized he should not put all eggs in that basket and engaged coaches in other tiers. McCollum has been a rising star for years in CBB - by all accounts he is an impressive guy and just went 30-3 and won the MVC.

It's possible as time went on Dolson's priorities/agenda evolved and if reports are to be believed, ramped up with McCollum.

McCollum and DeVries supposedly covet the Iowa job. Both are good coaches. I'd be pleased with either.

I've been on the DeVries bandwagon for a while... as a solid guy with a huge upside... I wasn't ready to "settle" for him at IU yet... and have been pretty warm to McCollum if none of the "big fish" are biting...

Between the two, I'd prefer McCollum, but I think DeVries would do well here with the NIL and the fan base.

If it’s Brad Stevens why wasn’t it announced today?
It’s definitely somebody still coaching

I’m not saying it is Brad, but there is plenty of reasons it isn’t being announced today.

1. The new coach could be notifying their current employer today.

2. IU could want to wait to announce on Wednesday or Thursday morning to ensure we are a big topic of conversation during the first round of the tournament.

3. The new coach may have still needed to tell their children about the change they are about to make.

4. Final paperwork may have still needed to be signed and or money moved to make it all official.

There is 4 reasons off the top of my head. I know we all want to know who the new coach is, but I’m not surprised it didn’t come out today. I think if the tourney starts and we haven’t heard anything, it is a coach of a tournament team. Until then, it could be anyone.

With the Iowa or IU job being more attractive to Devries / McCollum, keep in mind that decisions aren’t purely about money and NIL. Sometimes fit and emotion are bigger determinants. Both those guys are from Iowa. Just a thought

Giving the exiting coaching staff a day to clean out their offices without the noise would be another reason.

Woodson wasn't announced until March 28. He obviously wasn't a college coach, just a bench coach with the Knicks.

If we have 11 more days of this I'm gonna have to start putting my thumb on ice every night.
