He made some extra phone calls. And how many games has he won at Houston compared to Indiana in that time frame? lol do you think Kentucky or Kansas would of self reported some extra phone calls in the middle of final four caliber season like our stupid administration did?

Well, yeah, he made phone calls... and recruited thugs, drug dealers, kids who refused to go to class... Sampson had IU's APR for men's basketball down to 886 which would have made them ineligible for the tournament anyway.

"Crean inherited a multi-year APR score of 866 from Kelvin Sampson and thanks to single year scores of 975 in 2008-2009, 1000 in 2009-2010 and 1000 in 2010-2011, the latest multi-year score now sits at 952. Under new NCAA rules, the Hoosiers would have been declared ineligible for postseason play with a score of 866."

Grades and APR hit the skids when Sampson was fired and the kids stopped caring/stopped going to class

Then why are we interviewing Shaka Smart?

“Search firm talked to one candidate ~10 days ago” does not equal “neither search firm nor athletic department will take to other candidate now”

Just my opinion, but we should have torn up those phone/text records and made sure Kelvin was more careful (use burners man!).

However, the other significant issue with him was what you mention above -- his team culture was out of whack.  And we also had guys like Bud Mackey committed!  In addition to fixing the calls/texts, we also needed the President and AD to talk to Kelvin about cleaning up the team culture to some extent -- we don't need a team of choir boys or anything like that, but what he had going wasn't very good.

Oh well, it's well in the past now.

If an announcement is coming Monday, as for current coaches, I think Wade and to a lesser extent McCollum would be in play.

My logic:

If announced before the tournament, a major program guy would be seen by some as causing distraction and deserting his players. Wade was recently interviewed and has said he has had discussions with his players concerning his future. Any run by McNeese would be a good story of the team coming together with their departing coach.

Portal recruiting would be possible, even as he coached his team. Things would probably be kept quiet but as there is zero overlap in players in play for both schools, no perceived conflict would prevent reaching out to certain players about interest to play at IU.

McCollum was on with Childers and Neuheisal yesterday.  They asked him about the distraction of being considered a candidate for open jobs.

He said there was speculation every year and his 4 D2 guys know that they will have his undivided attention.  He doesn’t compromise on that.

Based on that, if he is the hire, it doesn’t sound like there would be an announcement until his season ends.

He is an excellent interview btw

Kentucky has passed on Sampson, Beard and Wade in the time since Sampson was here.  I do also believe the guys dealing drugs on the team had more to do with his termination than the phone calls.

I’m hearing some soft chatter that Dolson cut Shaka from his short list after the search firm uncovered video of him forgetting to thank his waiter for a refill during his Texas tenure.

Shaka is a good coach but doesn’t fit the mold of what we’ve allegedly heard Dolson is looking for. Dude doesn’t use the portal, like at all, and just in the last week told multiple of his players agents to f*** off.

Maybe... but it doesn't change the material facts... Wade cheated, then lied to the investigators to try to cover it up and never showed any remorse... certainly demonstrated his questionable character.

Remember after we told on ourselves then self penalized?  It seemed the common theme after that was to not jump on the sword so quickly.  I can remember a lot of arguments saying to deny and make them prove it.

I trust @Demo to some extent on this as he said he was a big fan until this episode. Still, Pearl was considered untouchable for awhile thus his stent at USI and then he once again cut corners at Tennessee and was fired yet many have him on their wish list. Then we have Sampson.  He came in tarnished and kept on cheating. But, after IU he has seemingly been clean. Maybe people can learn.

If we get down to the bottom of the list and if Dolson can have a plan to keep him in line I would be in favor. Would prefer a cheat and a liar (to the NCAA) over other blemishes.

Because a bunch of people on this board went and tried to get the +5000 odds. Vegas and betting sites are in the business of making $.

Evidently not.

Stevens isn’t coaching IU.

If Vegas isn’t going to take Stevens bet I’ll be the house. My condo still hurting from Ian lol.
