Completely agree. No one here would consider him if he wasn't born in Indiana. Hell, I didn't even know his name and I know the CBB landscape.

He is well liked by AAU coaches in Indiana.  Him and Calbert are friends so I am assuming that’s where the push is coming from.

The questions that I keep coming back to....
This hire could, if wrong, cost Dolson his job IMO...he got the football hire right (so it appears after year 1), but this is a different animal. Get this wrong, again...and it will get ugly.
With that in mind, does Dolson roll the dice on mid-major guy, with that much on the line? And if it's a roll of the dice or a mid-major guy, given all the leg work he surely would have done to feel comfortable with the prospects, would he have moved on from Woodson?
Let's see how football does this year with a harder schedule. It looks good so far but it's only been a year. If dolson flops on this hire after the Woodson flop who knows but it isn't good.

This is what’s called a false bifurcation, when one lists two potential outcomes as the only plausible possibilities. When in reality it’s far more likely that neither of these are true.

I’d love for the Brad Stevens rumors to all be true; a tiny part of me is holding out hope that they are. But these are not the only two possibilities. I am certain that Dolson has done far more legwork in this search than any of us will ever know. Just because we aren’t hearing things does not mean he’s not doing anything. It just means he’s conducting this search with an impressive degree of discretion and professionalism.

Sure, but if he's really reaching out to guys the news is bound to get out.  The more points of contact, the more chance of it being leaked.  There is just no way he's reached out to 4-5 coaches and we haven't heard a peep.

ahhh... I'm not in on the "we have to auto-get a big name guy" so, we'll just have to agree to disagree.

Absolutely, NP.

I have never felt confident we were going to land a stevens, pearl, oats, drew, which I would put in the big name category. We saw the with KY job, its harder to get guys to jump in this day and age. But I hope/hoped there were some names just below that group that we would tap before we'd hit the mid-major circuit. Given how quiet this search has been, still a possibility.

If it ends up being a mid-major guy, I will root like hell, and continue to support the Hoosiers like I have for the last almost 40 years. IU is the only team I follow...not an NBA, NFL, MLB guy...it's IU and IU only.

I think we all have PTSD from the amount of bad hires that have been made. But Archie was on its face a bad hire for many reasons. McCollum does not share much at all in common with Archie in terms of his approach to the game, coaching style, personality, etc.
Eventually a coaching hire is going to work out here. IU basketball has been criminally mismanaged by its administration for three decades; we now (finally) have an AD and President that actually “get it” when it comes to athletics and are actually committed to winning. Their approach to this hire is unlike any other coaching search we’ve seen. I trust them to get it right.
People only now say archie was a bad hire after fact. I never liked the hire but all I read at the time was hone run hire. They will rewrite history on mccollum too if he flames out.

As someone very connected told me last week,  Be careful of people talking because they don't know anything, if they do know something then they wouldn't be talking if they knew what was good for them due to the NDA's. I remember you getting in some trouble for talking last time.

I appreciate you feeling bad for some people. If I'm wrong I'll be here next week to take the heat. If you are right or wrong we won't see you again till the next search.

BS is 1A BM is 1B I'll stick to it.

Yeah. What exactly does better with IU's resources and admission standards equate to?  Maybe 60-65% overall and 50% in conference? Basically, Woodson level.

Basically, he was able to hit on a few underrated players over his tenure there. Outside of that, pretty blah results.

He's beat us like a freaking drum.  You have to accept the fact that great players don't go to Northwestern, as most can't get in.   They really don't belong in the Big10.  How would his teams do in the Ivy League?

Scott didn’t hire Woodson.  After 1,000 of your posts about Woody’s pals Quinn and Ferguson you of all people should know this.

In the realm of up and comer/mid-major types I'd be happy with Schertz, Huss or McCollum. I think all 3 could do very well at IU. I personally think Schertz would have the most entertaining style. I believe McCollum would be the best x's and o's guy. I think Huss would be the best recruiter, in terms of getting high level guys.

Costing these elites their jobs is laughable.  Sure, no matter how much money one makes or is attached they don’t want to lose their jobs without it being their choice.  However, none of them are going to end up on the streets or destitute if they took care of their finances during his or her tenure.  Yes, pride and feelings hurt but at their choice of retiring or other opportunities await them.  Examples are many including Tom Allen is doing well.

One of the guys who you think signed an NDA is my source. he didn't sign an NDA, no idea who told you that but i wouldn't trust whoever did. just hope the next coach is given a legit chance when it's not BS

This is why they need to keep this thing utterly buttoned up. Brownell shouldn’t have had to address this and neither should anyone else. They’re working.

Dolson has kept it buttoned up to everyone's chagrin here, but he can't stop external speculation.  As a head coach, talking to the press is part of the job and you don't get to pick the questions.
