RatpigHoosier Posted December 16, 2019 Posted December 16, 2019 Wonder if Tom Jurich would be interested... Maybe bring Ole Slick Rick to Bloomington also. Jurich’s name immediately came to my mind. Pitino.....noSent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app MoyeNeeded 1 Quote

Southside Posted December 16, 2019 Posted December 16, 2019 Are there any "lists" out there yet from the talking heads? Quote

Dolson or Kraft stand out to me although it is worth looking at an outside candidate who can provide an impartial assessment of the department. Purdue hired Bobinski a couple of years ago and he had zero ties to the school. None of the names knock my socks off but none are bad. I do like the thought of a former BB player though. I'm sure the lists will get longer in short order. While I think we've made some gains, I'd like to see some shake up. And I'd like them to continue improving facilities (not just BB). Quote
southernindianahoosier2 Posted December 16, 2019 Author Posted December 16, 2019 Honest question for those on the board. Removing Cook Hall (as that was Greenspan’s project). Old Friend Posted December 17, 2019 Posted December 17, 2019 Glass didn't hire Sampson but had to clean up the mess. At the time he hired Crean, it was a good hire. Crean did much of his own undoing. The jury is still out on Archie; but I'm more in his camp than out. Glass deserves better by far than a D. Making the tournament and succeeding in the tournament have exactly zero to do with the Athletic Director. Does Duke's current AD get credit for their success, for example? I'd give him a C+ for Crean and an incomplete on Archie, even as I still like the hire. My main issue is it still seems Archie is learning on the job, but the best news is he IS learning on the job. RatpigHoosier Posted December 17, 2019 Posted December 17, 2019 I was at that game. Champaign is an hour drive for me on I57Sent from my SM-G960U using TapatalkI was at the senior night when the dunk assist happened. He was giving his speech and ended by something to the effect of, “I know many of you are wondering if I can in fact dunk so I’d like to put all speculation to rest”. That’s when he went down to the north basket and I thought Calbert and maybe Greg Graham lifted him up to dunk. Pretty funny. Duke has 2 Nationals championships during their current ADs time. So not a very good comparison. Quote

Just depends on how much of it you want to put on Glass. This simply isn't accurate. Not even close. It's another in the cesspool of negative narratives. In the last 10 seasons (not even including this one), Indiana has won 2 Big Ten titles, made 3 sweet 16's, and its only losing records were years 2 and 3 of Crean's tenure. Indiana produced several NBA lottery and 1st round draft picks and won 20+ games 4 times. Worst decade ever? Not close. Take a look sometime between 1958 and 1972. And again between 2003-2012. That decade ended well, but the beginning through year 9 were disappointing for very different reasons than the beginning of this past one. And...with a 10-1 start, the current decade's not getting any worse. And yes, we all know what hasn't yet happened this season; but that's another in a long line of straw man arguments. It hasn't been great every year, but worst ever? It hasn't been close to that, either. thebigweave, woodenshoemanHoosierfan, jonz44 and 3 others 5 1 Quote

He seems to take a lot of credit for football and basketball championships and other things that happened so shortly after he began, you have to wonder how much he had to do with a lot of that. He may be a guru after all, but I think if I was in a meeting with him interviewing him about the open position at IU, I would ask him to list what he did specifically to bring about those championships a year after he was named A.D., and also what he did specifically to bring about the other many bullet points he lists, and then after the meeting put some eager hard working lower level people in the department to work gathering information to see how much the different versions of the stories match, and how much doesn't. I would want them to interview a lot of other people who worked on those same projects. And I would want to hear back about his tireless involvement in those successes. And I would want to know about his failures as well. I am not saying he sounds like a blowhard to me, but I am saying that the possibility exists that he may have been a beneficiary of the work of a lot of other very good people he had nothing to do with hiring, or possibly even very little to do with otherwise. He lists a lot of good things that happened in the department since he became director. He was also deputy director for two years prior at Temple, so maybe he was very hands on turning a department around. IU needs to be thorough. I do not want to see IU blow it with the eventual hire for this position. We already know some of the people involved in the hiring process have shown they can be susceptible to blowhardiness. It seems to be a weakness they may not even yet know they have. southernindianahoosier2 1 Quote
AKHoosier Posted December 17, 2019 Posted December 17, 2019 I just hope we get an outside hire who will make a commitment to winning and shake things up a bit. From what I've read on various boards, the athletic department really gets hamstrung with compliance and isn't allowed to find ways to use rules to their advantage. I'm not even sure what all the entails, but I do know if I were coach of the basketball program, I'd want to be able to do my job without my boss trying to find ways to bust me. I'm not saying we gotta be Duke or Kentucky, because I don't want that. I'm just tired of losing recruits to the Marquettes of the world. pumpfake, Alford Bailey and Deserthoozier 3 Quote
