  1. Not sure what the rumours were/are but my bro-inlaw knows the Sisleys pretty well (he coaches HS in evansville area) and say they really, really like Coach Devries. That they believe 'he's doing it the right way' is what they said to him. Take it for what it's worth 'cause it's kinda secondhand but no reason he'd tell me that (he's more of a PU fan) if it wasn't true.

  5. One of the reasons I would like to see at least a few kids return is to see what an offseason of development looks like in this program, under this staff. Do we see players get better, especially the younger players? Can some or all of Dorn Miles Harris get better? I know the current system lends itself to an annual discard/replace/upgrade mode but kids can improve, especially as they are more familiar with the system and development program. I follow Vandy as a second team if you will. Tanner, not highly recruited, came off the bench and played 20 min a game, 6ppg as a frosh. One year later he is all SEC at almost 20ppg. Not suggesting we have someone that can replicate that but we can learn more about this program with how some returnees look next year.

  9. All of the inflated price portaling is getting interesting as heck, and is going to be a case study in unrestricted free market economics. When a market is truly flooded and with some unrealistic expectations by the sellers and there are budget limitations for almost all of the buyers, there are going to be players who end up with no real offers of consequence. This seller’s market in early April could turn on a dime into a massive buyer’s market in May.

  15. Yep. For some big gap between the 2 however for me after watching every Iowa and IU game in conference the gap just wasn’t that big. Key one here would be head to head. McCollum won that. But for him to go 10-10 against the 10 out of 18th schedule compared to DeVries going 9-11 against the 2nd hardest B1G schedule doesn’t move the needle for me. Losing to 2 teams 138 + on the road within that schedule was alarming. I think his system allows him to be in every game he will coach. I also think his system will allow lower teams to stick around and be venerable for an upset. it is what it is. McCollum had the better year but for me and only my opinion it wasn’t by the landslide most on here think it was or should be

  16. The minute some big school jumps in on Fru and gets him it will be a huge miss for DeVries. It will be like clockwork on here

  17. Basically just a little better version of Nick Dorn....shot 43% from three over the last two years for Belmont. Takes 80% of his shots from three. Elite free throw shooter (93%). He definitely adds shooting, but like Dorn (and arguably worse than Dorn) he won't add anything else. Defensively, he was described by Knoxville's sports radio host as a statue. Doesn't rebound well. NIck Dorn had 3 blocks and 9 steals in approximately 700 minutes. Lundblade had 2 blocks and 9 steals in 1100 minutes, and that was against mid major teams.

  19. Is that how those work? Never played one. I could have just said it like that. Way faster. And tell ya what, those schools that profiled their GM role as 1st foremost a scouting and identifying talent in the portal gig and hired some Asst Coach or ex-midmajor HC they liked got it wrong. You’d be better off hiring some Asst GM from MLB who doesn’t know a thing about basketball but is steeped in team sports mgmt. IU getting Carr was a freaking gift and that guy is gonna pay off huge over time.

  21. More likely than a cap? The reality of (relatively) limited budgets will leave some players that had dreams of millions left out in the cold.

  23. I mean, we all agree teams win some they shouldn't and lose some they shouldn't, right? On paper, it's hard to argue that the Iowa's staff did not significantly outperform Indiana's staff this year. They also have only one player who was rated in the top 100 out of HS as far as I can find. The core of their elite 8 team came from D2, Wyoming, Robert Morris and some HS kids that McCollum identified and secured with far fewer resources than Indiana's. The tournament is single elimination so it's fair to not weight it super heavily when assessing a season, but that doesn't mean you can't draw meaningful insight from it. Single elimination tournament amplifies the importance of coaching (see Dan Hurley vs Duke this past weekend). McCollum is 4-2 in March Madness two years into being a D1 coach. Including knocking off #1 seed Florida, defending champions. DDV is 0-3 in 8 years as a D1 HC. Iowa also has much more straightforward roster construction than we do. Way more returners. He had a much better year 1 than we did, it's okay to admit that.

  24. I'm going with Kent Sterling on the transfers this year. I will be showing no excitement in any of the transfers, regardless of potential. We've seen too many times folks get excited only to get kicked in the shorts. Personally, I'm still riding the football natty wave, so I'm not sure that I'm terribly attached at the moment anyways

  29. In other words, not disappointing at all. In fact, a young player showing his true colors very early and before he contributes, and the staff taking the exact accountability measures they said they would, is a great example for our players to see.

  32. Roughly a year ago, a number of former players filed a lawsuit alleging sexual misconduct by former men's basketball physician Dr. Bomba. Reported moments ago by the Bloomington Herald-TImes. Federal judge dismisses lawsuit former Indiana basketball players filed against the school related to alleged conduct of then-team physician Dr. Brad Bomba Sr., the Title IX and civil rights complaints were dismissed with prejudice. From my earlier life I believe dismissal with prejudice forbids a party to refile the case.

  33. Yeah, the schools that can(eventually) take advantage of this mess, and presumably Carr can give IU a leg up here, are the ones that create some level of roster stability over a period of time to the point that they’re going into the portal with the goal of finding crack fillers rather rather than, ya know, a starting 5. Those guys can wait out the insane early money period and, comparatively, find value propositions after the market cools a bit. They can then use those savings to grow and keep their own kids, even if you have to overpay them some, and to at least the greatest possible degree create an internal culture piece. That’s basically the MLB model for teams with mid-level revenue streams.

  35. Hopefully! I'm not saying he's a terrible coach, just not better than McCollum IMO. They got the 9th seed in B10 tournament we got the 10th seed. They were 24-13 (10-10) we were 18-14 (9-11). One of them has a .764 D1 winning percentage one of them has a .695 D1 winning percentage (also very good!) One of them is 4-2 in March Madness, one of them is 0-3. One of them won the head to head by 17... His D1 resume is better than DeVries... that's not really debatable. Hopefully DDV shows superior coaching abilities next year. Happy to drop the comparisons since McCollum never wanted to be here anyway

  36. Fru was a starter for a good team last season. Do you really think he's transferring from that situation to go be a backup for a team that missed the tourney? Let's be real about where we are right now.
    3 points
  37. Yeah correct. Iowa took advantage of their easier B1G and overall SOS. They took advantage of schedule in front of them and most importantly won the games they should. They did get a 9 seed this year but was closer to the bubble then most 9 seeds before them I had ever seen. The bubble was crap. Basically you flip the away game at IU and even being a 9 seed that one game probably was worth 2 seed lines. If they don’t beat IU they are 2-9 on the road with 0 wins away from home against any team close to tourney quality. I definitely can admit they had the better year but I can also point out how razor thin their resume actually was on selection Sunday. Kudos to Iowa and McCollum for taking advantage of the tourney restart and winning games. Iowa fans were getting restless with how the regular season was ending

  41. On one hand, it’s the coach. On the other hand, it’s the program. Kind of have to stick with one. If you’re saying Devries lack of success is holding us back, then sure…I can buy that. But right now Wilkerson is in some mock drafts going at pick 46 (nbadraft.net). Woody “got TJD to the league” via pick #57. So there’s literally nothing holding Devries back from parlaying that same player draft success into portal targets. Basically, nothing about IU’s program stopped Woody from landing big portal targets. Nothing about the program will stop Devries from doing it. He’s got the assistants and structure in place this year. Now it is time to deliver.

  42. The past is the past and can't be changed so not sure why we're relitigating the WVU transfers situation. Anyways... Last year the transfer class was rated #10 by 247. Per 247 transfer portal rankings, we signed: #18 overall, #45 overall, #63 overall, #102 overall, #105 overall, #112 overall, #160 overall, #198 overall, #412 overall, #505 overall Sam Alexis was the #412 overall ranked player, Reed Bailey was the #63 overall. Enright was #198 and Conerway was almost unplayable at the end of the year ranked #105. We obviously have the money to pay "top" players... Do we have the chops to 1) scout them accurately 2) land them when other schools have a better pitch Rankings mean bupkis in the grand scheme of things if we can't do #1 And we won't know the answer to #1 until we see the team on the court. Everyone can cope differently while we wait. At least until then, we all can enjoy football season
