  1. Honestly, neither would matter. We’re likely looking at 14-15 new players on the team next year. This was a one year project. It didn’t work. We didn’t build momentum for next year or develop a couple guys for a sophomore jump. This season of Indiana basketball was just this season of Indiana basketball. And now it’s over. Really never felt a connection to this team in any way. It was mediocre basketball played by players who I barely got to know, and will not remember in six months That part hurts to admit. It hurt seeing balconies empty all year. Hurt that we didn’t have a brand of basketball that was interesting. Probably watched the fewest games in a season in my 35 years as an IU fan. I just hope they can get my attention back somehow next year. Because losing interest in one of the things that has been a part of your identity and a source of hope and sometimes joy, feels weird. I just want them to make me care. We’re at a point where that would be an achievement.

  2. Kansas has plenty of money. And Self can coach. But he’s really struggling (relatively speaking) to adjust to the NIL era. Lots of poor fits he hasn’t been able to coach up. Annoying center from UM, Storr, and the malcontent superstar frosh, etc… What Dusty and Underwood are doing goes way beyond money. Guys like Mara, Cadeau, and Johnson weren’t exactly portal darlings. They’re nice players who Michigan is getting more out of than their last coaches did. Perfect example of “fit.” Self has been the opposite—every year he has a malcontent or high priced guy producing less than at his last stop. That’s what Carr has to help with. And quite frankly Devries needs to be able to do when they get here. The roster this year wasn’t as bad as our record but most of the pieces didn’t fit together and I don’t particularly think the coaching really took for some of them either.

This Big 12 floor is just horrendous. I don’t give the slightest of $hits about cool graphics on the floor. I do care about kids slipping all over that ridiculous thing.

  13. Agree with your overall point, but I'm going to push back on Michigan. They brought in the #2 portal class. Lendeborg #1, Johnson #26, Mara #47 (right next to Wilkerson), Cadeau #60. The three you mentioned were contributors on big time programs with money, they didn't leave to go to Michigan on the cheap. Plus they brought in a 5 star freshman. Plus the money to retain their other guys. Dusty is a great coach, but he absolutely has a premium expensive roster.

  14. Damn assistants. Same deal with Massamba Diop from Arizona State. He goes where Nick Irvin goes. Two of the better center options. Thiam might be worth it.

  16. All we have is hope as fans of IUBB. No confidence. No proof concept. No recruiting momentum. Solid NIL which will land guys, but not enough to overcome others schools inherent advantages. We are gonna lose a lot of ‘like’ recruting battles. The next hope is 2 things, and maybe some overlay. 1. Scout significantly improves. (However, lots of great staffs out there with proven records-we aren’t gonna turn over several overlooked stones) 2. Increase budget enough to target a team with the qualities it takes to win big ten basketball games. Target, identify, and land that level of talent whatever the cost might be. With momentum and proof of concept, and winning, players will be begging to play here. Self recruting. It’s what Michigan has going now. UConn to a degree. Part 2 should have been our strategy out of the gate. Wouldn’t be in the position we are in now if it was.

  18. He should be able to develop a consistent and repeatable process to identify players who can help the program succeed. That’s what Cig has — production over potential, certain athletic attributes, character traits, etc. It’s not about finding the best players, but finding the right players.

  24. ‘26 top 100 PG Trey Beamer decommits from Boston College. Good player. Better than BC. Played for Team United on the EYBL circuit and he straight lit up Team Final in 1 of the Sammy Jackson games I watched. Posting this not because I have any thought that this is a thing so much as the fit makes sense to me. They’ve clearly wanted a PG in this class. If we assume that the starting ‘26 PG is currently playing in college or overseas somewhere, bringing in a multiyear kid to take some rotation minutes and groom to take the keys in ‘27 certainly seems like a plan. Kid’s really good but he’s not super projectable. He doesn’t win by being the best athlete on the floor. He wins by being really, really clever, reading the game at a high level and getting to his spots. Probably nothing but I kind of like it.

  25. Not sure why we need a thread to bash/hate on players who wore the IU jersey. We sit on our ***** at home and ***** about college kids (I don't give a flying frig if they're getting paid, they're still kids) who chose to represent IU. Pathetic

  30. Prioritize 2026-2027. Very solid team of players barring anything unexpectedly. Currently, a middle of the pack 7,8,9 in big ten. More help needed. (ARE THERE ANY UPDATES ON Z INJURY??? Is it going to be a continuing career issue or is it getting or going to be fixed at a 100%)??? Do what needs to be done in transfer portal (Get more (big) impact scoring and rebounding skilled help inside not another bench warmer and another scoring wing. Again, not a bench warmer. Then, there would be a bunch of potential with depth and talent and guarantee regarding injury/s. Then, IU Ladies become a solid top 2, 3, or 4 team in big ten. Maybe, even compete for # 1 in big ten. It would be fun/interesting to see what T. Moren and staff/program could do with a team of talent and depth.

  40. Yes agree but most of those mid players besides Stirtz were picked to fill a hole in the roster. They had other high major players surrounding them. IU had a whole team of mid major players. Big difference in my opinion.

  42. I like Devries, and he seems like the type of guy who is gonna be more than willing to change and adapt however necessary to be successful here. This years shortcomings gave him a blueprint of what he needs to get from a roster standpoint moving forward that competes in the Big Ten. Obviously we wanted to make the tournament, and probably should have, but I think you could flip the coin over and say it was impressive for Devries to get this team to win 18 games. It was a roster full of mid majors that were not big enough, athletic enough, talented enough, etc to go up against elite type of players that most teams have in this conference. Is it on Devries that this roster was built the way it was? Absolutely. But I think he did a pretty good job with the limitations this roster had. Winning 18 games with this roster shows me he can win big if given the right roster full of actual studs who belong in the Big Ten. The system works. A lot of times we jump out and take leads on teams, but just get wore out too quick to keep up with better athletes and crap the bed because we just can’t keep up. We need the horses. Let Carr build him a good roster to have at his disposal before we start thinking he can’t get the job done.
