I think DDV is coaching them just fine, for the most part. Pretty good actually. I agree with your view of the thread. I don't think it's needed and conversations easily could've been had in game threads. And probably would've been way more constructive / substantive. But it's a free message board so people can have at it as they wish. The "free flowing offense" can struggle a lot in the halfcourt and we aren't deep or athletic enough to run a ton. We don't have a top 16 roster but money is not a good excuse for that. We have more than enough money to field a top basketball team. To your point though, filling 13 spots is a lot different than filling 4-7 or however many it ends up being this time around. He was far more hampered by not getting his first choice assistants and not being fully staffed for the portal IIRC. New coach at a school that's sucked for 10 years, was always going to be a tough sell to top guys last cycle. That's why making the tournament this year is so important. You can sell them on established style, teammates and a chance to win on a huge stage.

Next time the state of Indiana loses one of these bets (hopefully with some non-IU team), I hope we send a box of these.

If you watch this team regularly and closely and don't think that D Rock is coaching, making adjustments and getting the most out of this roster I don't know what to tell you. He has a free flowing offense, he lets shooters shoot. He calls time outs and makes very obvious adjustments out of them to the motion and actions that they run. They didn't spend the money they needed to get a top 16 type roster. These guys have had some stupid mistakes at time, but they are obviously being coached. This thread is idiotic though, there's absolutely zero reason anyone should be trying to flush this coach after year one with this roster that was put together in 6 weeks, without enough money, and without assistant coaches other than Drew Adams primarily.

Putting North Carolina in over West Virginia still bothers me. West Virginia was 6-11 in Q1 games with neutral court wins over Arizona and Gonzaga at full strength however even after Tucker was out for the year they still beat Iowa St at home and won on the road at Kansas down 2 starters. I didn’t even have West Virginia on the bubble. If DeVries is close to the cut line they should put him in just for the screw job they did on him last year

Nobody pays attention to RPI anymore even though it’s still active and when they day comes that the ncaa replaces the NET then you are correct it will be forgotten like the RPI and everyone will pay attention to whatever the new metric will be

Please no complaints if softball has a rebuilding year after the three of the best seasons in program history where they made three straight NCAA Tournaments after just seven in first 50 yrs before that. They lost a lot and are very young and could well have growing pains with only Avery Parker and Aly VanBrandt returning as major contributors. Also, one game and Florida Atlantic has been elite the last two years. Hopefully this goes well overall, but definitely could be a slight step back from what team has been recently.

Don't you think UK players said the same platitudes about having "the best" fans, just like IU players did? Is it not obvious that both have fans who go overboard on occasion? By your logic, UK fans must be better than IU fans considering they've had much better on court success than us for most of recent history, despite being equally if not more chaotic / hateful online. Nothing basketball related is what I took issue with in your post. It was the feigned moral superiority. Curious... do you happen to know the amount of traffic this site gets daily, weekly, monthly? What % of the total IU fanbase do you think actively spends time lurking (let alone posting) about every crumb of news like us psychos do? Folks react to what they see with their own eyes and the vast majority of IU fans will never see or spend meaningful time on BtownBanners. Reddit has a much larger platform / reach and IU fans there would be tarred and feathered here for being sunshine pumpers lol. Superlatives are for high school yearbooks and buzzfeed quizzes. Sorry, we feel the same way about this thread, but this haughty idea that any fanbase is "better than" any other is a pet peeve of mine. People are individuals and just because you find the behavior of some anonymous internet posters to be distasteful, it does not diminish the fanbase as a whole or reflect poorly on IU, which many on this board are also proud alumni of. I could give a rat's behind what other fanbases think. And I promise you this tiny little corner of the internet is not meaningfully moving the needle on public perception of the fanbase. If things play out how they should, this thread will hopefully fade into irrelevancy soon anyway.

Yes, I agree. Just FYI, my problem with this thread isn’t that I am personally offended by it, and I’d never argue against anybody’s right to post whatever they want. And certainly, I have gotten as frustrated as anybody watching IU play basketball the past 30 years (except for 5 or 6 years in there). My problem with this thread, right now, is that it makes our fan base look ridiculous. Ridiculous to other fan bases, and ridiculous to potential future players. It looks like Dempsey Resich is no. 66 nationally per the article about the class. As it clearly states in said article that is one of the top players to even make it to college (I would have to guess maybe second or third). There is no guarantee he actually makes it to campus, but even getting someone in top-100 to sign at this days and age says how good Yeagley is. The fact that the no. 66 player is one of the few and amongst the highest of the top-100 to maybe make it to campus is the crux of the issue and why game is in such trouble.

To answer your question, one, there are a lot more teams packed closer together in rating values where Minnesota is at compared to where IU is ranked. And two, Minnesota was supposed to lose to MSU by more points than we were supposed to lose to Purdue, so there is a bigger rating adjustment in Minnesota’s case.

Having graduated with my wife from IU Business School... and then graduating from UW-Madison in Civil and Environmental Engineering... my alma mater will win. But I have always, and forever, cheer for Indiana in basketball and football...and... Just win, baby!

Women get their first win of the new season 8-2 over Army. Aubree Hooks, Brooke Mannon and Megan Gregory limited Army to 3 hits and issued a total of 4 walks. Hoosiers pounded out 9 hits, 4 of which were for extra bases including HRs from Avery Parker and Josie Bird. Alex Cooper led the way with 3 RBI. Later this evening at 8:00, women will face #25 O$U.

We also shed the most losses record, Northwestern now has it, which is nice. That one was annoying. I’m sure there are some streaks out there that are interesting that we would like to break, but for me all the meaningful demons have been exorcised.

I don't disagree with the Commissioner's announcement but it is a kick in the teeth for Utah Valley's opponents whose fans won't be able to watch their teams play.

Minny moved to 72 in the NET meaning all of IUs losses as of today are Q1 games. ( 5 Q1A and 3 Q1b), 5 of those on road, 1 neutral and 2 home games. IU does have 2Q1A wins as well.

They’re not on the edge right now, realistically they’re solidly in. In all fairness we never really know the committee is sometimes completely idiotic or, uh, internally motivated to pick and not pick certain teams (ahem, UNC last season), but while it will be big for IU to beat Wisconsin (God I still hate them) and Sparty (can’t the little whiner just retire already), neither is a must win. That said I’ll feel much more comfortable with a W over Wisc.
