  1. No, they would not. However, if they are just trying to build his brand, then all of this is for naught if he doesn’t go to IU. This tactic of brand expansion only works if he goes to IU in the end. You hear the crowds chanting IU. If he goes to Vandy/KU, then the hype and brand building is gone in the state. Part of the appeal to people in the state is that’s Romeo is one of our own. If he turns his back on the state school that everyone is chanting for him to go to, then he loses everything he built to this point.

  5. Give me a kid that has passion and a bit of maturing to do over a kid who doesn't care. It's much easier to help a kid mature and build upon that passion than to have to instill passion into a player. Jackson-Davis will be alright and be one heck of a college player. 6. "We want to get all this out of the way," said Tim Langford, as they pushed the commitment date back another month... I kid. For everyone trying to make predictions, Mr. Langford said they may decide to announce at the school or community. This is definitely a departure from announcing at the McDonalds game with Darius. I'd have to say it's a good sign.

  9. It got us a decent amount and back in position to attract one of the top, most promising young coaches in the country. It could have gone a hell of a lot worse, and I don’t think enough people here realize that. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app

  10. He played the last couple weeks of the regular season recovering from Mono so his disappearing act probably had to do with that. At the time I didn’t realize he was sick. Impressive that he played through it and played pretty well. He has improved each of his years that I’ve watched him and I agree he just doesn’t like to lose and his emotions get the best of him sometimes. I fully expect moving forward that he will keep his frustrations in check. Center Grove has a chance to be really good next year. They do have shooters to surround him. We were in games all year with some really good teams but it was a missed FT in the last minute or turnover that cost them. I really hope he works on an outside shot or even mid range in the off season. Outside of FTs I never saw him shoot anything but dunks, layups and hooks. He has been a joy to watch for the last couple years and I really hope he becomes a Hoosier Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app

  11. Some old timers from the original scout forum will get this. An ‘Insider’, high school assistant coach, was chiming in on a recruiting battle and said ‘Calhoun’s health is the word’. UConn wasn’t even in the picture and it became a joke for many years and several boards after the scout forum died.

We've missed the NIT twice in the last 5 years, and 5 times in the last 10 years. Still kind of astounding to think our program has fallen that far.

  14. I think this should put the "it's Vandy but he didn't want to announce during his season and face the backlash" crowd to sleep. His season will be over in two weeks, yet he doesn't expect to announce for around another month. There'd be no point in waiting that long after his season if it has been Vandy this whole time.

  16. Definitely a good sign if he wants to do it out in the community with the Mayor of NA somewhat involved! Contrary to all that has been said on here...if you noticed at the sectional and regional games, there sure were alot of IU gear being sported by the NA fans at those games! Proof, watch the videos. Awful lot of candy stripes on those kids at the games! Sent from my SM-G930P using BtownBanners mobile app

  18. This Atlanta columnist says between Crean and Matta for the Georgia job, he'd take ... Matta. Geez, tough call on that one. However, I was puzzled a little by these comments: "It took Crean forever to get the Hoosiers hurryin’ again ... " "My worry with Crean: If you can’t win enough to suit Indiana, one of the few places where basketball is a bigger deal than football, what assurance is there that he’d win enough at a place that reached its one and only Final Four at the expense of Michael Jordan?" As to the first comment. I actually thought for all Crean's faults, he did a pretty remarkable job in getting the program up and running again, considering what he had to work with. The problem was after that -- he couldn't sustain the little success he did have, recruit in-state and coach in big games. As for the second comment -- I would think that would be the whole point. At Indiana, the expectations are very high -- as they should be. We want to go to the NCAAs every year and compete for national titles. If Crean were to go to Georgia and have the kind of record he did at Indiana, I would think they'd be pretty pleased. ... Heck, they fired Mark Richt because he didn't win enough to suit the football fan base. If Richt wanted to coach football at IU, I certainly wouldn't say no. https://www.myajc.com/blog/mark-bradley/georgia-post-fox-choices-thad-matta-tom-crean/q5VipzTSUtKgHQZHss4rDJ/

  19. With all the cheating in cbb and IU having another crappy season my level of "dont really care anymore" is getting up there. Had to read BTB to find out who won the BTT and catch up on the March Madness drawings. We really need next year to be positive.

  22. Yeah count me in as someone who appreciates any rumors, whether good or bad. I think we all know by now to take every rumor and tea leaf with a grain of salt, as it'd be ridiculous to take everything on a message board as gospel. It's way better than the worthless back and forth that has gone on for about 50% of this thread.

Also he doesn't say anything in absolutes and always says "this came from ___". I personally see nothing wrong with it and actually find it entertaining. My 2 cents

  33. It's a game with 8000 in attendance. Of course everyone is going to have a story of what someone told them. It's fun. Certainly better than having to see the "alpha dog", "book it", or "anchors down" joke repeated for the 1000th time.

  34. I'm just reporting what I've heard so you can laugh or whatever you want idc. Like I said not saying it's true but just what I've been hearing. Also the rumor about Romeos girlfriend transferring to IU from NKU are true per some New Albany family I sat next to. Also hearing you're gonna see TJDs younger brother with an offer here if TJD commits...again just what the word in the CG area has been. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app

  35. I was fortunate to witness Romeo play against TJD in the Seymour regional last night and wow that was a crazy experience! As for Romeo, I just can't imagine there is a better player in HS in the country than him. I was able to watch Eric Gordon play in HS against Greg Oden and Mike Conley and I can tell you Romeo is far and above a better player than those 3 mentioned when they were in high school. There's no doubt he'll be a household name similar to Trae Young next year...except he actually makes his team better. Definitely a one of a kind player and great kid. I live near CG so I have seen TJD play several times but it was something else seeing Romeo live in action. The seats filled up so fast I had to sit in the NA section and I got to talking to serval people from there and each one of them think IU is where Romeo will end up. Again, nobody knows for certain but that's what the NA feels at this point. I was surprised Bryce Drew didn't make an appearance and was glad to see that Archie brought out Ostrom and Flint and Phinisee to visit with Romeo...Let's hope this final push pays off BIG! As for TJD I can tell you that he and Brooks are super close and have a "pact" to play together in college. Both his parents are now pushing for IU....I also know from good source that Archie is the only one who has been keeping in contact with him recently and Izzo/MSU hasn't made contact in several months. TJDs mom went to IU and his stepdad has pushed for IU since the allegations at MSU came out...prior he was aboard TJD to MSU. Just thought I'd share my experience last night and info that I've heard here recently. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners

  39. Difference is coaching philosophy. Crean's style wasn't a good fit and was exacerbated by his reluctance to go after the local talent. He also was just plain hyper. We were patient with him and there was some sporadic success, he just didn't grow the program as he should have based on that success. In the end, as Glass stated, there wasn't enough consistency. Anyone can see that Archie is a completely different coach. He is methodical and sees what he wants to accomplish and a path by which to get there. Crean was always looking for the newest shiny thing. I'm sure Archie's style has a much better chance of success, albeit maybe not quick. I would hate for us to give up on him without giving him a chance to develop his system, only to go somewhere else and tear it up. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app

  41. A university's success is not defined by athletic performance, it's defined by academic performance. IU has a $3.5 billion budget and just $100 million of that is devoted to athletics. The athletic department is a very small part of the president and board's responsibility, and while they should strive to make it as competitive as possible, at the end of the day the school's mission and it's financial priority is to focus on academics (as it should be). It would be impractical to judge the president and board based on a department that makes up less than 3% of their financial responsibility.
