I can't see Painter going anywhere or hanging it up unless we finally have a coach who can make his job more difficult. Outside of maybe a couple years with Crean, he's been able to get pretty much anybody he wants within the state.

I think he will want to be there for the rest of his career unless he becomes convinced they can't win a title there because of lacking NIL or some other structural issue... you never know, but hard to imagine him elsewhere. 

Painter is the best Purdue is likely to do as long as he wants to continue coaching. The more delusional Purdue fans may have champagne wishes but their tap water budget is not likely to change any time soon. Even if it did, the pressure to make their football program at least remotely competitive is only going to mount and its going to take a lot more investment to even get to that point. 

If Painter hasn't figured out that he can't win a title at Purdue yet, then he probably should consider a long vacation somewhere with some nice padded rooms. I'm not sure he could win a title anywhere but it certainly isn't happening at Purdue.

He's very good I've got to admit.  His track record except a couple years (a recruiting philosophy mistake he corrected) has been pretty darn good.

I just want to see them not be a title threat.

I'm curious how things will go as they fully get into the NIL era.  It feels like it's been delayed due to Edey, who was the ultimate crutch -- a 2x NPOY that PU was paying maybe 1/3 of what he was worth.  And also this year they really passed the hat to go all-in on their seniors and keep everyone and get Cluff.  They're probably spending as much or more than we are on our roster this year.

Hopefully next year they actually slow down.  They lose their top four scorers and PU's NIL isn't great, and they'll have to figure out how to spend between reloading MBB and trying to fix their FB problems.

That said, as long as Matt is there, I expect them to be pretty good.  There is no denying he is a very good coach.

Agree with all of this. Purdue would be crazy to move on from Painter. His style is pretty ideal for a program that's not going to be an NIL powerhouse.

Shout out to Tucker.  
I have referred to him as looking like a rec league guy but kudos to his performance against PU.  He played with great intensity, there were buckets that he seemingly was as fired up as if we just won the natty, had 10 boards, etc etc. Great effort (aside from the late one and one misses) and game!!

My grandsons played football and wrestled for Plainfield. One placed fourth in the state meet in the top weight class. I spent a lot of time at sporting events in Plainfield. Good times.

We have 5 nattys in basketball, albeit ancient history, but we have them.

We have a shiny new natty in football.

Purdue sucks. So do Michigan and Ohio State.

One of my favorite Purdue stats. We played them 12 times in soccer.  They scored 3 goals.  The fewest goals we scored was 3 in a game. They needed 12 games to get a tie against our worst performance.
