Leading people to the dumbest possible conclusions / outcomes and setting unrealistic expectations alongside your “anonymous” board posters who want to boost the same narrative hurts what we’re trying to do as a university. It steals the joy from everyone on here when we make an objectively awesome hire like the one we just made. (No one can see how awesome it is because we did a breaking-Brad story on here.and thought if not him, it was someone like Brad). People like Jeff Goodman give it a spark by including names that were never an option because he wants clicks, then this board takes it and runs with it. 

If Brad Stevens actually wanted this job, Woody would have stepped down a while ago. There was never a “done deal” with him or anyone else besides DeVries. DeVries was the done deal. There was never a conversation had or a handshake deal with Brad. Never. Also, because it needs to be said: Chris Beard was never a serious candidate because the Knight family hates Beard. Another thing this board doesn’t seem to get. 

This was an incredible hire. Incredible. I looked at over 40 “successful” midmajor or former midmajor guys in January and he’s in a select handful that will succeed. I had no idea if we’d hire him and to me, his hire was wishful thinking. We actually poached a guy from a Power 4 school, who quite literally, transformed a 9-23 team and had the team in the tournament without his 2 best players. His 18 years under Altman and McDermott should speak for themselves. He wins no matter who his assistants are (Archie did not) and that’s also huge! 

If you actually want insider info, follow IUanon1976, Tyme, or ScottDolson’sBurner. They’re actual insiders. It may not be what you want to hear, (and I know a lot of people on here don’t like them because it isn’t what they want to hear), but it’s real information, not fanfiction. This has been my tedtalk

I do think people are underrating what it means that Dolson hired Cignetti. Cignetti being the coach this season made them $29 million over and above what they made the previous year.

The basketball job used to be the only bellwether for the AD; opening football up as a revenue source changes the game. I really doubt he's going anywhere until he wants to leave.

If Cignetti had been a meh hire, I personally think it would have been difficult for Woodson to have been let go given the support from Buckner and the boys. The Cignetti hire gave Scott Dolson major credibility.

.....just finished watching the presser.

2 major things that stood out to me.

1. Coach has very a similar mindset, work ethic and expected "end game" as Coach Cignetti.

2. I LOVED his approach to the players, the team, the program, his assistants and the fan base as "WE"!

There was no power hungry " I " as in, "I gotta do this","I gotta get them better", "I gotta get this team going"....... He truly values his staff and what they have to offer and contribute. This will be very welcoming and refreshing!!!!

It worked for me too! His hire still has me on cloud nine and he would have to really mess up things for me to take him off the pedestal. He made the dream hire I've been wanting since Mallory was let go. And to have Whitten support the football program? Oh man, I've been dreaming for this for a very very long time.
