Thought I saw something that he was in a Goode situation where we has hurt after about 8-9 games one year and is seeking a medical hardship wavier. Might be a long shot but he had a great year for WVU, would love to see him the candy stripes for a year

played 19 games as a FR, so it's possible.

I don't really understand how anybody that watched the UK/UL hires last year thought IU was any different.  Those are both great jobs and none of the top coaches were going there either.  Why?  Not because those are bad jobs but because they don't have to in the world of NIL anymore.  If Oats/Pearl/Drew et al are happy where they are at, have an established program that is rolling, they do not need UK or IU.  They have money and can get top recruits.  Dolson isn't a failure for hiring DeVries.  He swung for the fences like he should have and as expected he ended up with a young, hungry coach (like Pope and Kelsey) from a P5 program.  The sky is not falling and IU basketball isn't doomed.  This is exactly what the landscape of college basketball coaching hires are today, and we could have done far, far worse than we did.

Why does Otz get so much more love? What DD did at Drake was nothing short of amazing.

After listening Doug Mcdermott talk about Devries, I'm sold on him as a basketball coach. 

Let's hope he can handle the pressure of IU.

I think Otz’s teams have much better metrics at ISU recently. That’s probably the main reason. 

Doesn’t take anything away from what he did at Drake. And the one year turnaround at WVU bodes well for our chances here with more resources. This guy chose Bloomington over another viable P5 program. He was Scott’s guy for the past month at least. WVU being egregiously snubbed just makes the timing more advantageous for the portal. That said, optics slightly worse being that he just missed the tournament and what not. All that said… cannot wait for his intro press conference at 11:30am ET on BTN.

The only thing that really matters is if Devries was really Dolsons guy all along, then both WVU and IU getting snubbed was a lucky break for us.  
 

I’ve always thought IU athletics—revenue sports, anyways—needed a good break of luck to exit the rut they were in. Fitzgerald getting vetoed so we could get Cig and then everything lining up so Devries could get onboard and hit the ground running, might just be the turn in our fortunes.  
 

UNC getting unceremoniously bounced the first weekend is a hundred times preferable to WVU making a run and screwing up Dolsons hire.

That's what it's going to come down to for me. How does he handle a pissed off fan base/media after losing a home game in January or a rough stretch? Miller did not handle it well which probably caused them to lose 12/13 games. Also, I remember his silly rant at Lunardi that one year. That being said, it sounds like we have the guy that is going to work hard.
