I hope we're putting together a roster that an injury or two doesn't wreck the season. Since two of our commits have had injury issues in their careers. Sounds like that was a problem at WV last year too.

Agree, although even losing their best player to injury they won ten Big 12 games and by all rights should have been in the NCAA tournament.

This is tremendous personal growth AH! :)

I see you learned your lesson from buying into Woodson’s offseason hype machine.

I agree… could be a nice change of pace to win during the season instead of the offseason. Let’s see where things are at later this month.

Huh?

I've taken a back seat to every new hire since Knight. Goal for DeVries this year is to get a culture and system in place. Anything after that is gravy. I've been pretty consistent on that since January regardless of who IU was going to hire. There's nothing attractive about IU right now outside of money. And with revenue sharing being enacted this next athletic calendar year, a whole bunch of other teams just fell into some money.

I applaud that, but some say IU should have been in the tournament, and I didn't see either on my bracket. As I have said it's ok that some people have concerns so far. Not everyone has to do the group think that everything is fine. It probably will be, but who knows? As we saw in the search, so many people on here are telling people how and what to think,

I am kind of surprised that the recruits that was going to go to WV haven't had a visit or anything yet

I also find this surprising and somewhat concerning. He got these guys to commit to West Virginia, but none of them are interested in Indiana? Maybe our program really is toxic.

Coach isn’t wasting money, going for team players. Not just going for the highest bid for the first bull through the pen. I for one appreciate that.

Could you imagine if he spent $4m on Conwell and $2.5m on Dix and $3m on DeVries and $1.5m on Goode. Let’s just say IU has $12m to spend. That’s already $11m. He doesn’t get the luxury of already having a mostly full team like others do so people just have to be patient and let him build a roster.

They also see the fans still having the same expectations like it was 1987 instead of actually where the program is.

This is soft. Jerod Morris from Assembly Call (love the show) soft. I’m much more of a Ryan guy. Anyway, the expectations are high yes. We can understand and give the coach some time to get there but the expectations are what they are and should never change. Understanding yeah we won’t be there year 1 or maybe year 2, but that doesn’t mean we should aspire to get there

Maybe we need to realize that kids today doesn't look at IU like we do. These kids have only seen IU as a mediocre program that doesn't make the tournament very often. They also see the fans still having the same expectations like it was 1987 instead of actually where the program is.

I can confirm this on IU recently being an mediocre program. Take it from me, I’ve only seen 4 Sweet 16s in my lifetime, and Crean’s 5 year success period (2012-2016). Hopefully IU can go back to where it was winning titles and such.

It sounds like his recruits are more loyal to the assistants than to him since none of them are really looking at us. I understand not wanting any of our guys, but I thought we would get some guys to follow you from WV besides a family member who has to.

Enright followed Devries - not from WV, but followed him. And it was only two days ago.

Are you impressed by what you’ve seen from DD since he was hired? If so, what has impressed you?

We don't really know what is going on behind the scenes.  We know he has assistants, but they where waiting on an announcement. Not sure why you wouldn't announce them when they are hired.  Create several positive touches for the program -- but that is a marketing issue.  We also don't have a good handle on who IU is interested in, who's visiting, etc.  I am sure he has his "draft" board and is reaching out to candidates regularly.   We just haven't seen any results yet.  But as other have said, it's early.

I guess. He also had a history with IU so how do we know that didn't help more

I think the $4mil number was disputed and it was close to 2. Also, no way Goode is getting 1.5. But the point remains he if did that he’d have a couple mil to throw at a starting center and a couple mil to make a bench which wouldn’t get you much. (Plus sisley).

I will say though if by now we had an expected lineup of Dix, Conwell and Dvries plus Goode and Sisley off the bench and pieces later people would be elated, although I agree with you that filling out the rest of the roster would be tough. That’s a tourney team but maybe not much more.

Imagine having the chance to get out of West Virginia and thinking "Indiana? Nah, I'll stay in West Virginia." lol

No one will be happy with a 19-13 record next year, as evidenced by the reaction to this past year’s…. 19-13 record. Fans want to win, win big, and do it now. People don’t have the stomach for a rebuild. Sure, there’s time to land players, But what are we waiting for with the assistant coaches? We’re trying to win recruiting battles against schools running on all cylinders when we have half a staff, and it’s not working out great right now.

If two of our best players play a total of 8 games and we go 19-13(10-10)... Yea I'll be fine with that. Context matters.

He doesn’t have to “impress” anyone, but he has to win games if he wants to keep his job, and a huge key to winning games is landing high caliber portal in the offseason - especially so when you don’t have any returning players. He doesn’t have a full staff yet and went after Dix and Conwell both but couldn’t land either of them. Like geez, I feel like I’m pretty uncharacteristically reasonable in my takes today but any concern with DD’s performance thus far is being met with giant backlash. It’s ok to admit that it’s been a shaky start. Plenty of time to get things moving in the right direction.

NO, you believe everything is great, or we will be condescending toward you until you believe what we want you to believe. HAHA

Everything is relevant - everything helps (or hurts).

The bottom line is, so far one player who played for CDD and his (largely non-existent - lol) staff has followed them to IU.

Hire the right people to set the culture and operational process and all of the other factors will end up going well. I think that CDD is a good hire because of that. The product on the floor is what will prove or disprove the quality of the hire.
