The last thing I’m worried about is the players the coaching staff decides to bring in and actually land.  Regardless of the players they bring in they will actually be a part of an actual college basketball program with a plan

I agree, but curiousity is getting the best of me in terms of what players I'll be rooting for next year.

Bottom line, I am looking forward to a group I can root for.  The last couple of years have been painful knowing I was rooting for the IU brand but not the players and coaches that were on the court.

This coach has a long term plan and only has been on the job less then 3 weeks and probably has done more recruiting then the last head coach had done in the last year.  More kids will be entering the portal before the deadline. A coach with a plan isn’t going to panic 3 weeks into a job because a couple kids chose to go elsewhere.  I’ve waiting 4 years for a college coach to coach the program I’m invested in I personally can wait and watch an actual college coach build a program

Yeah, I think with some many open spots he's trying to Rubik's Cube everything together.  I am sure by now he has his draft board and is doing his due diligence -- maybe to a fault.

I’m really hoping we get Payne.I liked him when he was at Minnesota, I only watched him once this year but he looked like he put in some work on his body. He was a beast in the game I was watching. IF we can get Dix and Payne I’m feeling REAL GOOD!

*would still like a pg that can get in the paint

It's kind of funny, I thought a knock on McCollum was that he did not have a roster to bring with him.

He's got 4 guys coming with him, Stirtz and Manyawu look very good at B10 level. Kael Combs and Isaia Howard got some run as young guards and will know his system. He could also bring Tavion Banks but he could possibly get a bigger pay day than Ben can afford IMO. I'd expect he will at least be able to bring 5 in Joey Matteoni a 6'8 PF freshman.

He's also got Isaiah Johnson-Arigu from Miami who barely played this year but was #147 in HS. 6'7 220 small ball 4.

McCollum is going to win, but I think DeVries will too.  B1G is going to be a major meat grinder.

Being nervous right now would be overreacting. It did occur to me that Michigan, Louisville and Kentucky had all been to final 4s this century and we have not. But the 1st year rebuild  bar is set at that level. None of those schools signed a player before the second week of April last year so again no worries. Everyone needs to look at on3s value tags on some of these guys though. On3 proved to be pretty accurate last year.

The last two assistants should be official next week then we'll really get rolling. I look for them to bring some combination of 4 or 5 guys and then we'll land a couple of studs and some filler. Hopefully we have retainable talent from this year's portal. I'm not at all worried about DDs ability to compete as a coach.

Honestly, I can't blame any of these guys for taking their time. It's a tough decision. You make the wrong choice, you could end up in a situation like Myles Rice. Josh doesn't have any eligibility left, but if he makes the right choice he could have a senior season like Knecht. I don't want this to happen, but kudos to him if he ends up back at Iowa. No way are they offering anywhere close to what the other schools are.

..... I think, most of us, including myself see a player we like on paper/film and think, "Why not IU?"....

It reminds me of when I was a travel softball coach. We would have tryouts and certain players obviously stand out because of their talent, but after watching them around other players, talking with them individually and even their parents, you can get a pretty good idea if that player is going to fit into your sytem or not.

I love that Coach Cignetti is all about culture and team chemistry and NOW we finally have basketball coach with a very similar mindset!

Do we think Dix plays the 2 and 3?  I feel like he's a more natural 3?  Then Devries is a 3-4 but defensively more of a 4?

Not sure if it was because of roster make up on devries last few teams or what but Tucker played mostly at the 4, i think Dix being a 2/3 will depend on who else we bring in obviously, i lean him being a 3 though
