Cue up the Bob Knight “disappointed” video from YouTube. Sorry, I’m in Curaçao and saw the notification come through. My wife knew something was wrong haha

But I could see him “splitting the baby:” being okay next year — say, a tournament team — but retiring then, and not necessarily setting up his successor with a great class. Suboptimal.

I think that's the best case realistic scenario...

I haven't read through all this thread recently so I'm not sure where the rumors are coming from.  I'm being told there could be a small shakeup with the coaching staff, but Woodson isn't going anywhere after this season unless he decides to step down which would be a surprise.  His plan was always 4-5 years and then retirement and his buyout makes it unlikely he is removed as coach after this season.

Maybe he sees the writing on the wall and decides to step down early but he is pretty oblivious to just how much people want him out at this time.

Hate to say I told you so but…

I genuinely don’t know what the long-term vision is. Even if you bite on the high end of the best case scenario, you keep the kids you want to keep, you hit on some useful portal pieces, you finish top 5 in the B1G, you get seeded in the 8-9 range and you win a game, you’re still going forward with a 67 yo HC with no succession plan and with nothing that could laughably be called momentum. And of the range of outcomes that is incredibly optomistic. I just don’t know what to say to that.
Side note: poll question: the over/under on canned Assistants is 1 1/2. Anybody on the under?

This was always my thing. So what if Woodson has he decent year. Maybe he will, if he gets lucky in the portal. Maybe Chris Tucker can be our Drake and we can accumulate enough talent to be a top 25 team. Maybe. Then what? And that’s if things go well.

I hated this hire from the beginning and this conundrum we are in now is exactly why.

You don’t hire an Alum, bridge coach, with low energy because when he fails you can’t let him go until he really fails.

I’m tired of throwing away years to shitty basketball.

Exactly right.

We have a 66 year old coach on the hot seat. His contact only has 3 years left, and you certainly can't extend him. How is he going to recruit high school kids? Just rip off the band-aid now.
