Next coach needs to clean house, right down to Clif Marshall. Woodson kept Marshall and some assistants that Miller had, don't make that mistake again.

I could care less about the assistants. They have been very limited in what they can and can’t do

Kind of surprised people are down on Goode and Carlyle. Goode is a known commodity from a solid program and good coach. Seems beyond obvious Woody/IU is failing him not vice versa. I suspect Carlyle can be a good P5 guard, too. I hope he sticks around.

I really like Carlyle. He plays his @$$ off on defense and seems to be a team player. Offensively he’s just a downhill guard and he’s kinda set up to fail here in that regard.

IU needs to make sure Hulls has a place.  I don’t want him to be exposed with the rest of those clowns.  Calbert either for that matter.

Maybe they are yes men too? Fife clearly wasn't and was let go!  I love both of them and would be fine with them and Fife here anytime!

I’d personally march them to the gulag at the end of a rusty bayonet if it meant IU hiring the next great basketball coach of his generation.

Yea as much as I love those two, this whole staff needs to be rebuilt from the ground up by the next coach. Our players don’t get better during the season, I put a lot of that on the assistants.

Whether I like or think Woodys defense can be effective is immaterial to the fact no one is or can teach it. Again, I put a lot of that on the assistants. We are poorly coached in basically every facet, and Calbert and Jordy don’t get to be immune from that criticism IMO

If we get a new coach after this year I hope he brings in assistants who are good at teaching and developing. I don't need them to just be a recruiter because if you can't develop those players what good is it being good at recruiting

I give Calbert a lot of credit for the player development we’ve seen under Woody, so wouldn’t mind him sticking around (though doubt he will). Jordy I feel bad for ending his playing career to join the staff here, but I think he’d be better served learning under a different staff elsewhere and maybe coming back a few years down the line.

Yes, that’s been some of our problems, let’s clean house and build it from the ground up, starting with a new head coach!

Yea, if he is fired end of this season IU has to pay him his remaining contract of $8.4M.  However, we only have to pay $1M/yr until that amount is paid off, which helps.

And Dolson should be able to negotiate that $8.4M down a bit...

No matter what happens the king is walking away a very rich man. The grift worked out perfect for him. Ben johnson goes back to coach his alma mater with actual college experience as an assistant. Gets 1.8 million. Woodson with no college experience claims he is coming back for the love of the school gets 3.2 million. That's a grift. If it was true love he would have taken 1.5 million.

Why?

They should be assistants because they played at IU?

I don’t have anything against Fife but how many programs are knocking on Fife’s door?  I think the answer is equal to the number of other teams that wanted Woody as a head coach which is zero. We have had good football assistants get gobbled up by premier programs but no one has thrown a bag at Fife yet for some reason we should bring him back because…….??? He played at IU ?

Perhaps Hulls and Calbert are great assistants (I have no idea) but those hires should 100% be made by the new coach rather than having assistants imposed on him.If the new hire wants Hulls and/or Calbert I think that would be FANTASTIC  (if they are in fact good assistants) but it should solely be up to the new coach.

PS…..I agree with Jersey in that I feel bad for Hulls cutting his playing career short in order to wade into this mess.

New coach needs to establish his culture. Very difficult to do that with holdovers from previous staff.

Hulls would be easy to retain imo.

I like Walsh as well. He is formidable and really gets limited by the head coach. Landed McNeeley and had us in consideration with many others that we had no business being involved with, due to lack of effort from the head guy.

Agree with your position on Fife. We can do better. He’s too polarizing and that seems like it can and has caused distractions.
