I wish we would have hired Woodson instead of archie and just gotten the hire an iu guy thing over with 5 years ago. Can you imagine how awful his recruiting would have been without NIL. He would of had to build a team and we probably could have canned him after year three. It would have been really bad.

Reality is that the roster was so poorly constructed last year, and the back court was in fact, just not any good. IU is a tournament team this year with a competent lead guard and they're a top 25 team with two. Getting two good guards in the portal changes everything for next with the pieces that are expected back. Obviously easier said than done, but it's doable.

I want Woody gone as much as the next guy, but not going to let it cloud my judgement strictly in terms of next season. I hate the trajectory of the program but am never going to root for the demise of the team.

why would any guard want to come here...? I mean, Woodson excudes a nothingness that inspires nobody except the players that just want to be there because its Indiana and they just want to be somewhere with bright lights: Gallo, Leal, Cupps.

Imagine IU last year with Brice Williams and Marcus Domask (two random B10 guard transfers that weren't highly sought after) at the expense of Ware who was a top 5 portal entrant. IU with Domask and Williams wins 23-24 games this year and is comfortably in the tournament. There's a Domask or a Brice Williams every portal cycle, multiple of them. Construct the roster properly this year and go from there.

Probably why cupps will stay. He will most likely be the starting point guard imo.

There is zero, zip, zero, nada chance.  If Ware goes around 20, he's looking at $2.5/year x 3 years, plus the option.  That's over $7 mil.  Nobody is that stupid to come play for Mediocre Mike.

Marcus Domask was rated in the 140's and someone like Brice Williams was rated in the 170's. Neither were even the highest rated portal grabs on their respective teams this year. 

Now the staff's evaluation of talent is a completely different subject, however. We'll save that for another time lol.

The real kicker is those schools will use their money to supplement recruiting. Woodson will use it to buy a team instead of recruiting.

There's a huge difference between 1-2 players via the portal and 5-7 players. Woodson's way also comes with built-in excuses - new team, young team, still getting to know one another and a whole new hump to get over.

You’re also expecting Mike Woodson is going to be able to get out, and position these players as well as the coaches they transferred to have done. MW will always finish 2nd in a head to head match up of a coach being able to utilize each players skill set to the fullest.
