Is there any doubt either would have a better season at IU next year than current staff?

Did Trilly actually say something about IU? And also I know that I have a propensity to write longer form posts, please feel free to let me know if this is not the place for it. I just like to write down my thoughts but I don't want to flood the board if that's not what people want!

I guess I am confused why a fanbase that still oddly adores Coach Knight to the extent that they do--- would have any issue with Pearl whatsoever?

Question, do we feel Knight didn't skirt the rules as a coach?  I loved the guy, but he did have his issues.  He was within the lines of the NCAA but he did have his own issues.

Sampson is one of the best basketball coaches in the entire country. I'm guessing you & others just don't like how he wins. I wish he would have stayed at IU, kicked a few guys off the team, and hung a few more banners. He probably would have by now, truth be told, but not at our prideful school!

Serious question - What exactly do you and half of the IU fanbase want? You want to win with no risk and no sacrifice. Good luck with that. It's like this vision of an acolyte on the sidelines of Assembly Hall, petting puppies and winning basketball championships all while wearing candy stripes. I think we have this vision of our "squeaky clean" program, and it's actually a huge detriment to our success. The NCAA does NOT care about our pride. They don't give a flying ***k. There's a path to winning, and we're not on it. It doesn't mean IU has to be dirty, but good lord we all need to get over this concept.

The NCAA knows: Bill Self breaks all the rules. Tom Izzo...don't even get me started. John Calipari...gross. Kelvin Samson, you over-texting jerk! Mike Schzzlakizkzizaouinveoinveski - super dirty. UNC, super dirty and cheaters on record. Sean Miller, dirty. The list goes on and on and on. All of them got away with it and still get away with it. They know the system. I am not saying I agree with it, but the NCAA makes money on high-profile, winning teams. And with that, they allow certain things. 

Guess who is the envy of IU basketball? All of those programs and their continued success. They have what we want. When Knight was here, we all overlooked many of his glaring flaws because we won. We were winners. We hung banners.

We need to look in the mirror and leave the self-righteous stuff behind. We need to get out of our own way.

Do we feel Pearl.is even realistic? He seems to have a soft spot for.the state of Indiana but he is established at Auburn. In addition, he has leveraged open gigs recently for raises. To people who would know, is this anything more than a crazy long shot?

I was just saying the same thing.  He was within the rules, but he had his own issues that would not be tolerated by most.

• 1 Final Four (lost by 1pt on a controversial ending)
• 1 Elite 8 (lost by 1pt)
• 4 Sweet 16s (another 1pt loss, and took a mid major 12 seed)
• Division 2 National Championship
• It's his dream job

Young Brucie would take us on one helluva ride for 8-10 years.

He said Tom Crean has an offer to come back to IU but only if Woody takes over at Purdue.

I’d say Pearl is unlikely, BUT imho he checks the most boxes that matter. A few other quality options, but he’s be the biggest get for me.

Idk what is going on. Idk if it's realistic. But Bruce Pearl won and changed the culture at USI. He did the same thing at Milwaukee, Tennessee, and Auburn. Holy cow...I'd take him. IU would be competing for Big Ten and National Titles. In a 68 team tournament, there are no sure things. But I'd be willing to bet Indiana would be a top 10-15 team with him.

Not wanting to wade into this, but just because people get away with things that are wrong doesn't mean I endorse/agree/condone/etc. with that. Guys at work cheat on their time cards. I don't. I want a competent coach who represents themselves and the university well, who puts a product on the floor that is successful while maintaining high academic and moral standards for the players. Pipe dream? Maybe, but that's my 2 cents.

I think we have to understand too..It is HARD to get to a Final Four. Yet alone win a title. This is zero disrespect to any IU team pre 1985 but Iu has only been to 3 final fours and won one title since the tournament expanded to 64 teams. There is so much parity in College Basketball right now.

Our last one was 22 years ago. Bruce's was in 2019. The man is aging like fine wine as a coach and showing no signs of slowing down.
