Mike is getting fired, IU is trying to be nice and give Woody a first crack at the narrative.  It’s not great, but in the end he is gone.

There’s no point in leaking this “contemplating retirement” story. If you don’t want to say you’re firing him, given that he’s a former IU player, I get that. But if that’s the case then come out and say “Mike Woodson is retiring at the end of the season. He will coach the remainder of the year.” Instead we have this cluster of a mess in typical IU fashion.

First, you guys are hilarious. Reading the pages I missed on a long travel day is great. 

I guess I missed the chance to drop the bomb that coaches were informed yesterday that Woody is being retired. Better to come from established sources so those on this board who question inside info so diligently wouldn’t have to post responses. Should be an announcement officially tomorrow. Told it was supposed to happen today, but Woody is being difficult about ending the season - and some of that has to do with getting the most out of his contract. This all follows several weeks of work by Dolson, and his witnessing a fight in the locker room that had to be broken up, with an assistant coach yelling at Woody “this is why they’re firing you!”

Want to watch the women’s game now, so will save some additional nuggets for later. But Dolson is retaining a search firm just to check the box, but we’re getting our guy. Numbers have been discussed. I’d expect that to be announced after the season right before the tourney starts. I’ll add more later. Sorry my travel didn’t spring this last night before it hit the media but had some family things going on. 

Things are about to turn around for IU and our fans in a big big way. Alright, go Lady Hoosiers!

If though, it turns out Woody is just going to retire immediately and he doesn't coach vs. Michigan, then Dolson will have solidified his power grab, you may say...

I wouldn’t be surprised if they (QB/Woody) really don’t understand what the game could be like, and the vitriol that’s going to happen. So it’s possible? lol this would be serious 4D chess by Dolson if that was the case.

All this contemplating is an actual smoke screen so his IU legacy, what’s left of it, isn’t tarnished by being fired.  I’ve got news for them, Woodson already has ruined his legacy and he doesn’t deserve to contemplate, he should have been fired!  I agree with Hornsby, he deserves every boo he gets Saturday and to listen to every Dusty May chant!  I hope the boo’s are loud and none stop, except to chant Dusty May!

Whether he continues to coach is interesting. I don’t care as long as it isn’t affecting who we could get as a coach.

Who cares about the messaging?  For me it’s the sadness of them trying to do it this way to show they aren’t a massive dumpster fire before interviewing the next coach.  We will now have had 6 coaches in 25 years at IU when the hire is made.  Not including Dakich when Sampson was fired.  I would be willing to bet not many schools in a D1 power 5 conference holds that distinction.  We are a massive dumpster fire.  No matter how they try and put a bow on it, we are a **** show.  I think having our last two coaches here each 4 years and end the ways they did will have a far bigger impact on who we hire next than the messaging, but the trying to act like kumbaya, you are fired struck a nerve with me.  Something has to change.

It’s a bit messy at this point. Woody and his camp and his social media burners are just delusional. Hysterics today hinted at some racial stuff behind the scenes which I fully believe based on stuff I’ve seen from the burners. I hate the racial aspect, because I’m a merit based guy. Woody has failed in every metric. Then handled things horribly at senior night when HE put together the gosh awful season he did.

I wish he was gone now. Pick a responsible adult to lead these kids and let’s hope they can turn things around enough to sneak into the tournament still. Please…….

IU will make an official announcement in the next 48 hours that “Mike Woodson is stepping down/retiring at the conclusion of the season”.

Pretty standard for these types of things.

Hmmmmm....everywhere I have worked, if someone was forced to resign, they were being fired...regardless of how many more days they were on the payroll.

They retired Mike Davis in the middle of a season and fired Kelvin Sampson in the middle of one.  "Never"?  Psssh.
