Fire Coach Woodson Thread

That’s fine (mostly surprised to hear that someone generally likes my posts).

I lost a lot of my interest when IU hired Mike Woodson. That was a clear signal to me of the importance (or lack thereof) that basketball has to the IU administration. I tried to give him a chance but the interest just hasn’t been there for me.

As for not watching the games, by the time I get home from work and get done at the gym, it’s like 8:00 at night. Our games usually start at 7:00, so they’re half over by then. I used to build my schedule around our games. Not anymore. if you’ve watched one IU basketball game this year, you’ve watched most of them. It’s the same thing game in and game out. We play an ugly style of basketball. Even the wins usually aren’t fun. So I don’t sit and watch a game that will likely just piss me off

I’m ‘invested’ in the sense that I’m dying for IU to be great again. The potential coaching search is the most excitement I’ve felt in years toward IU basketball. But I’m tired of caring more about IU basketball than the IU administration does. We as fans pour all this passion into the program just for the administration to do utterly unserious things like give the head coaching job to a semi-retired 63 year old with zero college experience. It’s beyond frustrating.

I obviously still care. Otherwise I wouldn’t spend time b******* and moaning on here. But I care a lot less than I used to. And the fact that passionate fans like me are losing interest isn’t a good sign for the long-term health of the IU basketball program. It’s not a good sign when your tickets are selling for less than a McChicken on stubhub. The fanbase is the last vestige of the past that the program has left. Once that goes, we’re just another team.

And each with botched (or in this case deeply unserious) hire they have greater risk losing an entire generation of fans because younger fans have really only seen, at best, mediocrity.

Hiring Woodson was just saying "whatever, screw it". If he didn't play here 40 years ago it'd be beyond laughable.

I only hang on cause I saw the cheaney years if not I would probably care less anymore but it's getting harder to care each year. We hope for a change that never comes. The 2002 run was one fun time but did not last

I generally like your posts, but damn....your opinion holds much less hearing this. How can you be so opinionated having only watched maybe 10% of the games? Not to be a jerk, but your opinion means nothing to me from here on out, and that sucks. I mean, seriously, I thought you were all in. You post as if you're invested, but in reality, you're not at all.

Amen to that

He would be like the kid in school when you had a group project and did none of the work but still complained in the grade we got

There’s zero reasoning behind this logic. What’s the difference between going 14-17 and 15-16? Absolutely nothing.

I agree with this. But I do think there is potentially a difference between 15-16 and 16-15 (or, perhaps, 16-16), if the administration is looking for a reason not to move on. So in that sense, last night means one more IU win now guarantees a non-losing season, which isn't nothing.

Ware was a monster last night, he brought and left everything on the floor. We don’t win without that effort, but I do think X being back wad part of it. He’s there engaged and bringing his own energy and some leadership, and Bako’s 14 came with 30 plus minutes and a couple good 3’s on good shooting. It was a team effort, it was a fun game and good to see the team fighting hard again.

Disagree that we would know about it. I know it's more fun to rag on our administration for being incompetent, but a big sign of incompetence is having leaks all over the place and stuff getting out before any kind of announcement can be made.

Who said anything about leaks?

We’d know because they’d announce, which any competent administration would since the number of people you’d have to clear this through would inevitably lead to leaks. OSU just did it. We did it with Davis. Think about who our coach is in relation to this program. You think the AD, the President, and the BoT led by Woodys good friend would move on Woody and not tell him and let him dangle in the wind like a fool? C’mon…

Also, I’m glad this is fun for you. Very little about the last 25 years is fun. Sad, sure. Fun….hardly.

If there was a deeper look and understanding of team psychology you might see it. If you have played at a high level, you might. If your extent of bb knowledge is watching and understanding analytics you might not.

I really hope the administration/Dolson can see past the nonsense Woodson has been spewing lately to try to save his job. He’s really starting to backpedal and contradict himself.  I’m glad for the players that they played hard and won (especially knowing it was against Wisconsin), but Woodson patting himself on the back saying that was Indiana basketball at its best is ridiculous. His comments from last night were basically “see, we played my way by going through our big, and X was available, and we won because of it.”….no. Ware saved your slim 4 point win by having a JHS at Purdue type of game. Good college basketball coaches don’t have to rely on the JHSs and Wares of the world to go off to convincingly win a dang game.

His 5pts 1 assists and 5 turnovers were the difference. On the season we're minus 12 with him on the floor. He was benched earlier this season. So yeah sweet dreams of X coach. My goodness quit sending this guy out to talk to the media.

I got to bed each night dreaming we have a new coach, then I wake up realizing it was a nightmare and we still have Woody.

I would have accepted, “I go to bed every night wishing I hadn’t sat on an open scholarship.” This answer, however, is a joke.

For all you “Woody needs to go” guys - this doesn’t change a damn thing. Calm the heck down. You may still get your wish or may not but this doesn’t change it.

The real question you should be asking is why did they play so much harder? Why when so many have said he has “lost the locker room”

If there was a deeper look and understanding of team psychology you might see it. If you have played at a high level, you might. If your extent of bb knowledge is watching and understanding analytics you might not.

Feel free to answer that honestly. I promise you no matter how it may seem as a positive for Woody, your reply won’t be used in court when deciding Woody’s fate.
