Fire Coach Woodson Thread

They might be whiffing cause they refuse to go after the guys who are proven winners. I have no idea if true but if we could of had pearl we didn't whiff we just refused to hire him. Crean sort of hand some success but also crap seasons. Woodson had nothing in college. Plus the crean hire was probably the least attractive for coaches given it was a 100% complete rebuild with no portal.

This is one of the things I appreciate about Crean. It was possibly the worst of circumstances, and he took it and ran as best as he knew how. He at least gave us some hope amid a disastrous period.

At this point this would be my email to Scott Dolson:

To Mr. Scott Dolson,

Will Mike Woodson for sure be the coach at Indiana University next year?

                   Circle one:

            1. Yes

            2. No

            3. Heck no, and I’m surprised you                                  even gave me option #1

You can’t give him the out of just not responding. Give him the ole “if you don’t respond to any of the options, that’s an auto-No.”

For all you “Woody needs to go” guys - this doesn’t change a damn thing. Calm the heck down. You may still get your wish or may not but this doesn’t change it.

The real question you should be asking is why did they play so much harder? Why when so many have said he has “lost the locker room”

If there was a deeper look and understanding of team psychology you might see it. If you have played at a high level, you might. If your extent of bb knowledge is watching and understanding analytics you might not.

Feel free to answer that honestly. I promise you no matter how it may seem as a positive for Woody, your reply won’t be used in court when deciding Woody’s fate.

I don't want to put words in your mouth, but I interpret this to mean that moving on from Woodson after this year is more about who may be available than wins and losses from this point.  So, if a big name that's a no-brainer becomes available the administration may act.  Reminds me of the Cubs.  They were going to stay with Renteria and then Joe Maddon became available or more recently Craig Counsell became available, so Ross was let go.

Last night was not a recipe for sustained success. The game IU plays has such a small margin for error.

Wisconsin took 22 more shots, had 9 less turnovers, however only took 3 free throws.

IU had to play a perfect game to win, just not something that can be expected. It is why we see IU lose big and win small.

Nothing will change.

Yes if the game was called normal or close we lose easily. We foul a lot and were only called for 8 fouls, Malik had 5 of those.

Many IU football fans felt the same way about Dolson before he fired Tom Allen.

True, which can be encouraging in its own right. But this is a different circumstance because of the presumed Quinn-IU guy-good 'ol boy narrative. IU has never ever taken football seriously and Dolson could do that part of his job without much resistance, if any.

IU basketball is a bigger and more political beast.

I think the roster has good individual talent but when put together as a team the pieces don’t fit. And that roster construction is the reason the team struggles. Woodson is a NBA guy and will play his individual talent. Notice when Reneau was on the bench the floor spacing was better and Ware was stellar. Guys made 3’s as well but our starting SG went 0-4. The game is a blowout with a SG that can shoot better and a PG upgrade.

With or without Woody next year  the roster construction needs fixed. Even if it means playing small ball for 1 season. Not ideal to play small but it would work well on offense and be a tourney team.
PG - Portal (athletic/be able to shoot)

SG - Portal (athletic/be able to shoot)

Wing/SF - McNeeley

Wing/PF - Mgbako

C - Reneau (or get a Portal shot blocker)

I got my appropriate smart@$$ response out of the way, but I'll also take you up on the gracious offer to answer honestly. And this has been my answer since the Kansas game. This is a bad team. It's been the case since game one, as evidenced by it having nothing but unimpressive wins and a bunch of embarrassing losses. They are nothing if not consistent, but have been, all season, a bad team. Even bad teams have the ability to get up for a big game at home here and there (see: Kansas, Wisconsin). But hey, what do I know. The extent of my bb knowledge is just plain ol' watching.

Indiana is a bad team, but with a lot of talent. The talent just often doesn't make sense together. Everybody in the starting lineup is a 4 or 5*. So for small stretches, things can click. But the lack of cohesion/plan is a killer outside of small glimmers of hope.
