LamarCheeks Posted November 16, 2024 Posted November 16, 2024 Just the other day, Cigs said on the Dan Patrick Show: "It feels like this is where I'm supposed to be." We've jumped the gun after football success in the past (some guy named Allen), and the results were disastrous. Though Cigs is 63, this doesn't feel so fleeting -- as if it might actually be somewhat sustainable. Let's hope that's the case. thebigweave, Leo, bird4par and 4 others 7 Quote

He’s said he would like to coach ten more years and believes that he can do it. I have seen nothing to suggest that he can’t and won’t. LFG! Thanks, Coach C. :) cybergates 1 Quote

Hovadipo Posted November 16, 2024 Posted November 16, 2024 Rittenberg reporting “more than double” on annual salary and obviously a big increase to the salary pool. Demo, Home Jersey, thebigweave and 1 other 4 Quote
Demo Posted November 16, 2024 Posted November 16, 2024 Per Rittenhouse the new deal more than doubles Cig’s salary. That would put him over 8 mil, which if you believe On3 puts him in Lanning/James Franklin territory. Honestly, I’m not sure that’s not a bit of a discount. Home Jersey Posted November 16, 2024 Posted November 16, 2024 I was holding my breath waiting for this news. Wasn’t sure if we’d get it during the bye week and thought we may be in a trouble if it didn’t get announced now or immediately after Purdue game. Great way to start Saturday morning. This is how you win the bye week. Quote

Even got an adorably small 1 myself a hundred years ago. But how is an annual retention bonus not just de facto salary? What purpose does that serve? mamasa 1 Quote

Basically sounds like he is getting 9mm a year. Maybe we don’t owe the retention 1mm per year if he is fired? Also, I wonder what his buyout is if someone wants to try to poach him. Quote

If you’re doubling his salary and giving him the world after 1 year, the buyout to fire him would be predictably huge, but the buyout for him to walk has gotta be astronomical. Like Jimbo Fisher-level astronomical. I imagine he’s effectively unpoachable. Quote

In the real world, I understand a retention bonus to mean if you don’t leave, we pay you this lump sum of money. So if this retention bonus works the same way, the details might be something like each year he’ll be paid $1M on September 1st every year as long has he’s still employed as the IU football coach. In other words, I don’t think it’s added to his salary, we’ll be cutting a $1M check. Quote
JSHoosier Posted November 16, 2024 Posted November 16, 2024 Wow, 8 mil per year. I believe that makes him 3rd in conference behind Day and Franklin. Hopefully sizable increase in staff salaries and NIL, and details on any stadium upgrades. Quote

Im assuming it can be financed differently. Quote
