Just saying at JMU they didn't have a coach specifically for DE, Kuntz handled the whole defensive line there so this is something that Cignetti is doing differently at IU. It was just a comment to what is going on in the program. It's possible he just wants them both on staff and willing to alter things to make that work for everyone. thebigweave and lillurk 2 Quote

He was likely a candidate to get a DC job somewhere next year after the year his line had this season. Sent from my SM-G996U using Tapatalk lillurk and thebigweave 2 Quote

Q. ON BUILDING UP THE NIL RESOURCES AT INDIANA… CURT CIGNETTI: It isn’t cooking, it’s done. We’re there. Part of what I’ve got to do is change the way people think…my players, people around the program, and people outside the program because there's a perception that people won't give to football. The ante has been upped. The figure is there. It’s a very highly competitive figure within the Big Ten Conference. A lot of hell yes's in this interview, but this one was almost audible from me. Popular Post Hovadipo Posted December 4, 2023 Popular Post Posted December 4, 2023 Q. ON WHY HE DECIDED NOT TO COACH JMU IN THEIR BOWL GAME… CURT CIGNETTI: I think it was a natural process, to be honest with you. I think the athletic director at JMU, his comfort level when this happened…and we had a great relationship and we still do and we're great friends…was that I would coach the bowl game. But the way this process really works is when you take a new job you've left your old job, and you have to devote 100 percent of your time to your new job because there's a million things to do. For me and my staff to show up two days before the ballgame wouldn't make any sense. They’ve had kids go into transfer portal there…good players…really good players…and they're in the transfer portal. So it's open season. I think as time went on, the leadership at JMU, you realize what's the sense of…there’s no sense in this. And from my standpoint, while I have a strong emotional attachment to those guys, I think to do them right, they need to be coached by the existing members there. They're gonna hire a new head coach soon that will bring a staff in that will watch what's going on. They'll hire some people on a temporary basis that have coached collegiately, and that gives them the best chance to be successful. Translated: we're about to take some JMU kids from the transfer portal and coaching their old team while having them getting ready to hit the weight room for my new team would be incredibly awkward.
