Could be its own thread, but it isn’t that crazy to wonder if the moment Rece Davis reveals our logo on the CFP show on December 8th, Cig goes down as the best coach in IUFB history. rayl456, HoosierTrav, southsidehoosier and 6 others 9 Quote
IUHoosierJoe Posted November 25, 2024 Posted November 25, 2024 I posted earlier that the buyout for him to leave seemed disappointing, but then I did some research and found it’s actually well above average. Looked at contracts for guys like Ryan Day, Lance Leipold, Mike Elko, and Luke Fickell, and those guys all only have to pay like 5 or 6 million to leave. So we probably got a good deal given the market. Hovadipo 1 Quote

No way he’s leaving as well. When u can make the playoffs, you’re going to get all the resources u need to recruit if he’s paid well. Plus expect huge donations to help as well. thebigweave and southsidehoosier 2 Quote
Lebowski Posted November 25, 2024 Posted November 25, 2024 The only thing that's disappointing is knowing that IU is just now using the money on IUFB. Just think of how much more sooner Indiana could have been a powerhouse in football. Us IUFB faithful have been begging for this type of investment to occur for decades!!! Since 1950 his competition is Bill Mallory, who won 47% of his games, or John Pont who got us to the Rose Bowl but only won 38% of his games. Pretty clear to me that a 11-1 Cig leading a team, picked to come in 17th in the BT, to the CFP is already our best coach ever. go iu bb, southsidehoosier, Hoosierfan2017 and 4 others 7 Quote

I mean give credit to Dolson. They increased the number of teams to 12. A window has opened and we took advantage of it. Even if we invested a ton stupid writers would have not given us a fair chance. We’re like Virginia tech of the 2000s but unlike them we can win it all one day. Seems like we did well there. Quote

I don't know, we fo have a coach that turned a garbage program into an undefeated season Conference Champion. Bo McMillin. Google him. Quote

I was talking with a friend Saturday about how I see Coach Cig as our version of Barry Alvarez. Until Alvarez, Wisky hadn’t accomplished much at all. They were really bad between 1963 and 1990 (when BA arrived). Awful actually. Alvarez changed the entire trajectory of that program. He won 3 B1G titles and won 3 Rose Bowl’s during his tenure. Most importantly, he established a winning culture that persisted long after he was gone. Thats what Cig can do here. And if he does……Build him a Big Bronze Bust and make sure everyone sees it every time they enter the Rock. MemphisHoosier, Hovadipo, Hoosier Roots and 4 others 7 Quote

I was in Camp Randall when AT ran for over 300 yards and the stadium was 40% filled. I was there when they went to the Rose Bowl for the first time and 60% of Madison went to Pasadena, regardless of whether they had a ticket. Yes. Same vibes. Would love to see Cig evolve this program to what Alvarez did. thebigweave, HoosierTrav, MemphisHoosier and 1 other 4 Quote
cthomas Posted November 26, 2024 Posted November 26, 2024 I think that basketball has been bad enough for long enough that everyone is ready for something different. This football team is the right thing at the right time. CCC is right. Why not us. We are putting the resources in place to not only sustain what is happening, but to build to something much better. Hoosierfan2017 Posted November 26, 2024 Posted November 26, 2024 I feel like I’m going to be disappointed next season if we’re not back in the playoff hunt. I’ve gotten a small taste of CFB success and I don’t want it to go away. hoopsta007 and Banksyrules 2 Quote
Artie86 Posted November 26, 2024 Posted November 26, 2024 I sure hope that given the opportunity, Coach Cignetti will definitely return the favor and “leave no doubt” when defeating Ohio State within a next year or two! Quote

It's funny to think a few years ago that most if not all IU Football fans would have been happy to consistenly get 6+ wins a year and a bowl game. lol cybergates, MemphisHoosier, mamasa and 4 others 7 Quote

None of the other 17 coaches had tenures in which they won at least 50% of their games. None of them. 12 of them won less than 40% of their games. I’d say Cig is off to a pretty good start :) thebigweave, southsidehoosier and go iu bb 3 Quote
