Home Jersey Posted November 30, 2023 Posted November 30, 2023 Zander Diamont is going on quite a twitter rant this afternoon about IU's branding mistakes/misplaced investment over the years, etc. He's not being overly critical but he is basically jockeying for a check lol. Someone said Zander for president because he said going back to the oval logo would kill recruiting. He said "I want nothing more than a consulting role. I am running my own business and am in no way qualified to be on the coaching staff. ... With love!" OliviaPope40 1 Quote

Technically I believe scholarships are year to year anyway -- you don't HAVE to renew a player's scholarship. Even if a team were to honor their scholarships year to year -- pretty much everyone does -- I do not think they are under any obligation to take a player back if they enter the portal. For instance, a player like Khristain Lander hit the portal and I believe was hoping for a bigger landing spot than Western Kentucky......but I do not think IU was under any obligation to take him back if he didn't like his other options. go iu bb 1 Quote

If he goes to a bowl next year here (sure a bit of a longshot) he would do bowl prep and be hitting the portal. If he were coming here and not doing the bowl he could just hit the portal but I think it will be more attractive to prospects for him to not only sell on the idea but also show his team/ideas in action. It has to sound better to a kid to say, hey we cannot host you this week because we are playing in XYZ bowl vs saying sure we can host you for a visit, we arent doing anything else. He will have someone(s) doing a lot of the leg work on who to contact and then he will jump in on zoom calls initially and he can do that from there but can pull on a IU jacket. I think him being in the bowl will be more attractive to some kids than the time missed because he is doing prep work He needs a couple assistant he trusts to review the current roster of players to determine who to re-recruit. And the 100s of players in the portal to recruit. His own player personnel staff. They can do the grunt work, while he does bowl game prep. BUT, the minute that 4th QTR is over, he's on a plane to B-town to roll up them sleeves and get going. iuthruandthru, MemphisHoosier, 8bucks and 1 other 4 Quote

IUFootballHappyHappyJoyJoy Posted November 30, 2023 Posted November 30, 2023 So, not only did we go to the Fun Belt but we poached from the best team? Well played, Indiana. I didn't think you'd have it in ya. lillurk 1 Quote

And then spend the money on practice facilities and things the players will use everyday. All they need on game day is a great playing surface and a packed, loud stadium. You can come back to the stadium later as success fuels those other improvements. 8bucks, Tom White, Crimson and Cream and 1 other 4 Quote

I am sure Glass' athletic bill of rights would guarantee the player the remainder of a 4 year scholarship... probably would not necessarily guarantee a spot on any team, but certainly would cover the cost of the education. Lebowski Posted November 30, 2023 Posted November 30, 2023 Some things to note. JMU's FBS conference recruit rankings have been at the bottom of the SBC. Just like IUFB. A few JMU transfers jumped from 3 to 4 stars after this year Coach Cig is 100% of an above .500 record his first season of taking over a new job I won't be surprised if Elijah Sarratt and Jalen Green transfers into IUFB. And every single player on IUFB's current roster will have a dramatic improvement in development. Folks like Tayven Jackson will benefit exponentially. So even if we aren't able to retain players that have entered the portal we'll still see improvement and a better product will be playing on the field 2024. But I do hope they rethink leaving the program now because they'll benefit in player development under a Coach Cig staff. My point being, player development is something that is a proven track record and follows Coach Cig wherever he coaches. I truly won't be surprised if we go bowling next year. However, I won't be disappointed if we don't. I will say this though, there are no guarantees because we are talking IUFB here. lillurk, NVFalcons1990, Ryno6284 and 4 others 7 Quote
