Woody couldn't coach an offense to save his life is a massive problem. And don't get me started on the assistants. They arent coaches. Problem is, you can just move on from Woody without likely having bad blood. But man... We need someone on that bench that knows anything at all about offense... Some defensive knowledge would really help too.

Calbert Cheaney would disagree.

They tried like hell to get shooters and thought they got one in MM.  Were  they successful in getting shooters? No they weren’t but it’s ridiculous to think that was their plan.

Relying a freshman—no matter how talented—to be your consistent shooting threat is a bad idea. Freshman are defined by inconsistency. Even JHS was pretty up and down last year, and you won’t find too many freshman as savvy as him.

MM is looking very disappointing. Nothing about him says 5-star talent.

Been saying it since game #1.  A lot on here don’t share that opinion though.

I would argue that we are not close to how the game is supposed to be played in 2023…

From top to bottom there is so much wrong with IU basketball. As a program as a whole, not just X’s and O’s…

can someone with insider knowledge let us know if it can be turned around?

But…But Woodson got us to the 2nd round of the tournament last year!! (with the best player in the country who was an Archie player)

Lots of Archie players made the tourney. Just not with him as their coach. He was about as bad of a big time coaching hire flop as I can remember. And let’s not even get into the knuckleheads in the administration that fired him without a plan and then got duped by Stevens’ agent….

So despite Woody’s flaws, we’re probably lucky he still came when he did and he should get respect for that.

Woodson on Kel'el Ware: "I was a little disappointed. If you look at his start for us, he worked mostly in the paint, and he didn't want any part of it today"

I’m confused because he was a biggest 3 point threat

6 months ago, we beat Kansas for an out of state 5 star recruit that had previously been committed to Duke. It was hard not to feel excited about that.

Fast forward 6 months, Duke and Kansas are both highly ranked, while we're unranked, getting smacked around by a highly ranked team, struggling to beat mid-majors at home and the 5 star recruit does nothing for us after having a late-night tantrum at Taco Bell.

Days like this make it hard for me to believe we're ever going to be a force in college basketball again. It just feels like the deck is too severely stacked against us.

Just got back home from watching the game in person….

Our issue isn’t shooters, our issue is that we have no strategy on offense so we don’t know where we’re getting shots and how to get open looks. Our offense is dump it inside to reneau or ware and pray.. If we do shoot a 3 it’s out of impulse not design and those usually miss…

Also we don’t have anyone like newton #2 for UConn on our team…

I would argue that we are not close to how the game is supposed to be played in 2023…

That’s on Woodson.  He said from the beginning he wanted an outside offense.  He dumped it inside the last two years because of TJD.  He and race are gone and we are playing the same damn thing.

The best coaches adapt.  Woody did so last two years. This year not so much.

I havent read the thread for my own sanity.

Today sucked. However I trust Woody to get this team playing its best basketball, it’s game 4. I do think Mgbako needs to be coming off the bench. I think at this point he’s been given his fair shake at the 3 and it ain’t happening. We stayed attached until the under 8 with basically no X, there is reason for optimism. Ive been on Woodys hard for two years and he’s proved Time and time again he’s going to get the squad going, let’s enjoy the ride.

Also while the box score may not show it, thought CJ played well today!

I think Malik being in foul trouble and fouling out really hurt and I feel Ware got pushed around alot. Mack didn't look confident at all.

Team isn't very good. We were fortunate to hang around as long as we did. MM just isn't very good and is stiff as can be. Can't rebound, can't shoot, can't defend and can't stop turning the ball over. Outside of that everything is great

I think the season will be defined through Mgbako.  If he wakes up and decides to play defense and shoots how we thought he would, the sky is the limit.  It opens things up for Ware and Malik and allows X to drive with more space. If not, maybe a tournament appearance.

Totally agree, lots to work on but while it’s no fun for us to watch as fans today might have been some good medicine to take

And he assembled this roster to be a post oriented team.  He may say it, but to date he's not showing it.
