Respectfully disagree. Purdue got to #1 by default honestly. Their early season wins against Duke (now unranked) and Gonzaga (top 20 team but playing in the WCC) don’t look great anymore. Throw in the fact that 7 of their 11 B1G wins are against Minny, Nebraska, OSU and Penn St. (the bottom four teams in the B1G). They are not the #1 team in the country. Shouldn’t have been really.

The opposite of that is they beat a [now ranked] Marquette team, lost by 1 against Rutger, and 5 to us on the road. They're 8-2 in quad 1 wins, 4-0, 5-0, 5-0 in the other quads. I don't think they're the best team but deserving of #1 ranking.

So do the comparison about who 'deserves' to be #1 now.

Tennessee has four losses and only highway robbery gave them their home win against Auburn today.

Houston has two losses as well but they've only played three top fifty Pom teams.

Alabama has three losses and is a week removed from a 24 point loss to a team that wouldn't be in the tournament right now.

If another team jumps up to #1 next week -- which is likely -- they would really be taking over #1 by default rather than by claiming it.

Up to #18 in adjusted offense on Kenpom. Crazy to think we used to complain about offense.

JHS orchestrated the O beautifully today. He’s been raising our all around O with the defense reads, and we now actually have an inside out game, creating space, significantly aided by how much better TJD has gotten playing out of double teams.
That combination of JHS’s on ball play, TJD’s dominance and growth in playing out of the double team, creating space, along with improved shooting generally has our O humming. And the added inside play of Malik and JG over this stretch has opened things up even more.

We’re gonna miss TJD, he’s a special player, but i’m also looking forward to Malik and JG together next season.

I’m not advocating for anybody else to be #1, parity is obviously king this year. I’m just pointing out Purdue hasn’t proven to be the best team in the country with their wins. In fact, in their own conference they have 0 wins against the top four teams (Rutgers, Iowa, IU, ILL). An unbalanced conference schedule has been kind to them.

Technically they have a win over one of the top four teams in the Big 1.o (Maryland) and they have 4 of their remaining 7 regular season games against top 4* Big 1.o teams. They have a couple of noncon wins against teams ranked higher in the NET than any Big 1.o teams too.

worth a watch. I respect Painter a ton, one of the few coaches I'll watch their postgame. He talks about Trayce around 3 minutes in, just gushes over the player and the person.

That's what you heard?  I heard "man we suck!  We'll probably never be successful because we're so stupid"

Dang. What a freaking game and what a day of college hoops! Watched this at a bar full of IU fans. Awesome atmosphere.

1) Enjoy what this team has left of JHS to TJD. Man, what a duo. When X comes back that makes this team much much more dangerous.

2) The great start was key in this game. Indiana didn't let Purdue get comfortable. I said I felt like they had to make Loyer/Smith play like freshmen and for the most part, they did.

3) Our guards outplayed theirs which was my second key going into this game. Galloway has been awesome the last few weeks. I wanted Tamar in the lineup but Trey's stepped up.

4) Kaleb Banks is going to be awesome. Kind of reminds me of when Juwan was a freshmen. Juwan didn't play much on that B1G Championship team but when he did play he was pretty efficient.

5) Malik gaining confidence has been crucial down the stretch. He freaking went at Edey. I loved seeing that.

6) Race made some HUGE plays at the end. Glue guy!

7) Matt Painter is awesome. I know we aren't supposed to like him but what he's doing with this team is special. I'm sorry, I really don't think Purdue is THAT good. Maybe top ten. I just don't think they are a Final 4 team. Edey is a beast, top 3 player in the country. Maybe #1. Outside of that, I think IU is better. With a healthy X IU wins this I think by double digits. Homer me thinks IU can go into Mackey and beat them.

Credit to Coach Woodson. I came here three-four weeks ago and wasn't happy with the state of the program. Felt from the Rutgers game to the Penn State game this team took a major step back. Since then, just one loss. I do agree, celebrate but get ready for Rutgers. IMO that game is just as important. They own IU. Let's end that crap. Punch them in the mouth. I hope this team is peaking at the right time. That's what it's going to come down to this year. I don't think there is a consensus #1 team. (Technically we just beat them).

Both frosh seemed brave today. Both surpassed my expectations today. Should both be studs next year.
IMO, Reneau, has a great chance to be better in terms of range and creativity as he matures (vs TJD). Not as strong right now, but promising in terms of bounce and athletic profile.
JHS won't be a SO

Ha, he’s probably just disappointed we are not in year 6 of learning the complicated packline defense and/or defending Archie because he was hampered since Race was a Crean recruit. :)
He did, however, show up when we lost a few and will undoubtedly return if we have another bad streak.

Dude is the worst

Anyone else keep tabs on Christopher Gunn’s (CJ’s father) account on Twitter? Reading the tea leaves, I get the impression CJ is transferring out.

For instance, after the win against Purdue this interaction with a fan occurred:

Fan: Glad y’all are on our side!

Christopher: Take no moment for granted.

Another instance:

Fan: Huge part to come glad he wears cream and crimson

Christopher: I’m just glad we got to experience once.

————————

He’s said other things in the past about not giving his boy more time in game to get the feel/get comfortable. CJ’s got great potential, so it would be sad to see him go. I can understand his father’s frustration and CJ’s too. That said, he has not yet put the ball in the hoop effectively this year when he has been put in, and this team has older, more experienced and reliable options. I hope I’m wrong because his game and potential excites me.

What do you guys think? Has anyone heard anything?

I mean if that’s what he’s thinking? I don’t personally believe it. 1. He’s a talented, but unheralded freshman. 2. He’s been given some rope. He’s not latched onto it. 3. I think his future is bright, but he’s clearly not fully ready yet. 4. Not sure who he expects to play over right now. 5. Banks has kinda latched onto his role/minutes lately and has offered more. 6. Duncomb is looking like a for sure transfer but Gunn would be a surprise to me ATMoment.

I always feel like when iu beats a great team that said team goes into a slump and causes the win to be not so great. For once I hope that magic happens again lol. Hopefully purdue falls to seventh in big and this win means little lol
