You and your family are from New York.  I saw a family member has Carmelo Anthony on the top of his Twitter bio.  Were you Knicks fans when Woodson was the coach there?

Fland — Most definitely.  Me and Carmelo are close.  He’s like an uncle to me.  We’re pretty tight with him.

TDH:  Have you talked to Carmelo about Mike Woodson?

Fland — Most definitely.  He played for Coach Woodson, so he’s a little biased there.

Carmelo is the gift who just keeps on giving. Would guess that during that time when this recruitment seemed basically dead Fland was just kind of indifferent to IU and the Midwest and the B1G and the whole thing. Carmelo then jumped in and said, “Youngster, Woody is my guy and you really need to re-think this.”

He may not want one but wonder if there might be a way to get him on the staff in some capacity.  Can colleges have scouts or ambassadors?  He would not have to hit it hard but for about 2-3 recruits a year it would be nice to get a visit from Carmelo

The NCAA is pretty restrictive in how many staffers can recruit, as well as which positions and which dates the recruiting is allowed for. So it's actually better for him not to be part of the staff since those restrictions don't apply to him.

Ironically or not he is performing in BTown this weekend. Or maybe yesterday. Either way, thought that was interesting enough in its own right

Woodson didn't go last week but Ya did. Fland said it is important for the HC to show how interested they are in him.  Also I think last Alabama only sent an assistant coach as well.

Woody went to NY a week ago or so before Ya did. Woody knows the kid wants the head coach involved and his he making his presence felt. May be Boogie goes to IU, maybe not. But Woody and his staff have put everything into this.

I like that Fland wants the HC heavily involved. I’d do the same in that situation.
