WayneFleekHoosier Posted May 17, 2021 Posted May 17, 2021 I wanted size. Is this the best choice, idk, but trust in staff. We needed size and he has that. Quite a bit of roster change (badly needed). Now we get the figure out the 10 best guys....... MemphisHoosier, woodenshoemanHoosierfan, Schreckbagger and 2 others 5 Quote
Class of '66 Old Fart Posted May 17, 2021 Posted May 17, 2021 Re-posting this background on Durr. https://www.thedailyhoosier.com/transfer-portal-names-to-know-usf-7-footer-michael-durr/ Stromboli, pumpfake and IUc2016 2 1 Quote
IUc2016 Posted May 17, 2021 Posted May 17, 2021 We weren't getting a top big in the portal this year due to Trayce and partially Race. However, after Joey left we certainly needed size. Is this an upgrade over Joey? I have no idea, time will tell. With that said, welcome to Indiana Basketball Michael! Excited to have you. rcbowla Posted May 17, 2021 Posted May 17, 2021 His shooting % is terrible for a 7 footer if he's a traditional center. I know nothing about him and could be off if in fact he takes a bunch of jumpers. Big fella that should provide depth at a position where it's needed so I'm fine with it but found the #'s somewhat troubling. Sent from my Pixel 3a XL using Tapatalk IUc2016 1 Quote
Popular Post Go_Hoosiers Posted May 17, 2021 Popular Post Posted May 17, 2021 In my mind, this is all about Dickinson and Edey (and any other huge big ten centers). You can't ask Trayce to guard these guys for 30 minutes a game. We need someone who can give us 10-15 mins on these guys. Durr will do that. If he doesn't work out this year, he won't be back for a second year. No downside here. cybergates, IUc2016, VO5 and 14 others 17 Quote
WayneFleekHoosier Posted May 17, 2021 Posted May 17, 2021 He averaged 26.5 min per game. I'd be shocked if he gets 20 with us. Am I seeing things wrong? TJD should get 33. That gives him 7 or so. Does he get 10 minutes with TJD? Maybe. lillurk and Hutch89 2 Quote

If his main role is to spell TJD and/Race at times and score off put backs or east post ups, I think it’s a pretty good pickup. 79% FT shooter for a big is very solid too IMO. He looks athletic enough and moves well to take up space defensively also.Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Dave from Dayton, JaybobHoosier, Hoosierfanyuh and 1 other 4 Quote

Loaded Chicken Sandwich Posted May 17, 2021 Posted May 17, 2021 Interesting. Have bodies to throw around now I guess. Quote
Stuhoo Posted May 17, 2021 Posted May 17, 2021 Love it. 13th man on the roster that absolutely fills a a need, and does so for two years. Has a nose for the ball on both rebounding ends, truly takes up space and is a physically strong defender. Will not want the ball in his hands and will not demand 25 mpg. If the expectations are reasonable, the 'get' is excellent. cthomas, FWHoosier84, Happydaze and 2 others 5 Quote
Class of '66 Old Fart Posted May 17, 2021 Posted May 17, 2021 Presumably this finalizes our '21-'22 roster so the pressure's on CMW and staff to show us what they can do with this team. JaybobHoosier, mamasa and lillurk 3 Quote

Sent from my Pixel 3a XL using Tapatalk Per hoop math, 52.3% at the rim last year: https://hoop-math.com/SouthFla.2021.php Just under half his shots were at the rim. Too many 2-point Js, though, which he shot poorly. To be fair, the stuff that gets called a 2-point J in play-by-play data is notoriously variant. Floaters, hooks, foot-on-the-line... While it would be great to add a guy who could be a threat inside right off the bat, we really need depth at that position. If TJD, or LD have any foul trouble or injuries we need another true center. Quote
OKHOOSIER Posted May 17, 2021 Posted May 17, 2021 This move is totally strategic for spot minutes against big boys in the B1G (see what I did there).. We absolutely cannot afford for TJD or RT racking up fouls and trying to guard some of the legit 7 footers in this league. Is he going to average near a double-double as he has at USF? No. But my thinking is that is not why he was picked up. This is a great pickup at least for that, and if the kid can show some flashes of high level offensive rebounds/put backs, even better. At worst, he can foul the piss out of whatever 7+ ogre purdue puts out this season. Red1, thebigweave, mamasa and 2 others 4 1 Quote
Go_Hoosiers Posted May 17, 2021 Posted May 17, 2021 He would have been our best free throw shooter last year (of anyone with 10+ attempts). 79% from the free throw line. Happydaze, Stuhoo, ElectricBoogaloo and 7 others 3 2 5 Quote
Popular Post Stuhoo Posted May 17, 2021 Popular Post Posted May 17, 2021 In my opinion Michael Durr is not a swap out for Joey Brunk. The size is comparable but the skill set is almost a polar opposite: Brunk--clever scorer around the rim, has some big games and is a great rah-rah teammate, kinda soft post defender, lousy rebounder for his size and terrible FT shooter. Durr--see descrption of Brunk above and flip it to the exact opposite. woodenshoemanHoosierfan, GloryDays, Hoosierfanyuh and 5 others 8 Quote
Popular Post PB1230 Posted May 17, 2021 Popular Post Posted May 17, 2021 Also don't underestimate the impact on practice. This past year with Brunk being out, TJD was probably being defended by Geronimo much of the time in practice - that was a noticeable benefit to Geronimo who played very well against much bigger players considering the size differential, but was a noticeable detriment to TJD's ability to finish around the rim. Need TJD and even guards being comfortable navigating around post players with legit size - Durr will be perfect for that. Chris007, Hoosierfanyuh, Red1 and 13 others 16 Quote

The team he’s building may be optimized for his 4-1 motion offense, but can also respond to two very specific games on the schedule every year. A playable 7-footer is the most difficult position to fill. Woodson and staff are really doing well in just 2 months on the job. Chris007, woodenshoemanHoosierfan, PB1230 and 5 others 8 Quote
