I don't dislike McCollum but I have immediate concerns about any candidate that needs the AD to immediately build up a support system to cover gaps in his ability to run a big-time program. That's such a red flag.

I think any coach we hire even Stevens needs a strong support staff to get through all the  things college coaches have to go through. A lot of  top football programs have a GM plus a lot of support staffs

That’s EXACTLY the problem

He's going to, in all likelihood, be a Painter style recruiter going for guys that fit his system.

Quite confident he will be able to find 3 and 4 star guys who want to play for him after this season at Drake.

He could bring Stirtz, retain Rice and Reneau ... maybe Mgbako ... and fill in transfers. We'll see, if he ends up being the guy.

There's going to be risks no matter what. Trust Dolson or not, I guess.

Never said he can’t win, I’m implying Indiana can’t land the big fish because it’s not just “Indiana’ anymore.

That became the case when they hired Mike Woodson.

People are having a delayed reaction lol

But to be honest, Kentucky tried a couple big fishes last year and fell back on Pope. It “seems” to have worked out we shall see but it’s not like we are the first to take big swings and miss and Kentucky is in a 100 x’s better spot than we are.

We really haven’t landed “the big fish” in a long time with any level of consistency.  We are not Kentucky, Kansas, or Duke and haven’t really recruited at that level since the early 90s.  EG?  Bracey? DJ White?  Cody?  Noah?  Not a ton of big fish in 30 years. We really need x’s and o’s and wins more than a Calipari.  Especially in this era.  Have no clue who we hire in the end.  Just hope he is a top 10 x and o guy with a better personality than Archie.

McCollum is their back up

And they are in all likelihood going to end up going fishing if DeVries stays at WVU and IU secures McCollum.

Iowa is not McCollum's first choice, apparently

I’ve been reading stuff suggesting Ben isn’t exactly all that great with the media. Indiana is a different beast when it comes to fan interactions.

I'm obviously not saying they don't need a staff & GM. I'm saying any strong candidate for this job should already know what they need and have people in mind to fill those roles without the AD trying to mitigate shortcomings on his own.
