Let's get this on record since I have said it repeatedly on here. I think Stevens is the first choice. I think there are talks or have been talks there. I think we can do that right now because May is still playing. We have more time to work with Stevens. If Dusty is the guy I think I would be the happiest person. I was on this board for months last year saying hire him. From what I have been told from people here at the university, donors, and others, Scott thinks he has a shot this time. What I say here has no bearing on any of that. I'm just sharing what I hear is going on. Sometimes it's correct and sometimes it's not. I think we are in a good position with Brad, but Dolson might already have a deal done for Dusty. To me either is a win-win.

I can tell you at a minimum there’s no deal for anyone right now.

True not definitively but you can say that with a reasonable degree of certainty IMO. Theres no way you have a deal with anyone actively coaching another team right now. That takes 99% of candidates off the table, unless we are getting either the white whale or Mark Turgeon. Which I’d assume are both close to 0 as of now. There could a “deal” as in an understanding of mutual interest but most likely not any kind of actual agreement on a contract. IMO.

I suppose that’s sort of true but it would also make for a very weird scenario where they’re talking to at least one prospective hire despite having a deal in place? Doesn’t make much sense right?

Whew...I didn't look at the board at all from Friday evening until Monday morning and it took a Herculean effort to scan through the 120+ pages of eclectic content. If IU ends up with Brad Stevens, all of what I am writing below is moot. Same thing with Dusty May. If both are a "no", it gets interesting. I love Greg McDermott's offenses and think he could do great at IU. I am not advocating for Mick Cronin but I do think there are a few things that could be in his favor if he were to get a real chance at the job, if these things were already posted previously and I missed them, my apologies:

1. I think there is a decent chance he could get Michael Lewis to rejoin his staff. Lewis is well-regarded and I'd imagine IU would give him a raise from what he is making at Ball State. I think that would be great for offense and in-state recruiting.

2. I am not an "insider" by any means but I do have some long-standing connections within the state's basketball community. Mick Cronin does have connections to the Indiana Elite program and he has a prior relationship (I don't know how close they are but there is a relationship) with Drew Adams. Adams is an assistant coach with Cincinnati right now, previously worked for Bradley and is considered an ace recruiter in the Midwest. Woodson should have hired him but of course, there are a lot of things Woodson should have done. Adams on staff would make a ton of sense for Mick Cronin.

3. Indiana's NIL resources would give Cronin the biggest chest of resources he has had in his coaching career...BY FAR. He is very well thought of in the coaching community and I think IU's floor in nearly every season would be making the NCAA Tournament as a 5-7 seed and being top 5-6 in the Big Ten. In short, I don't really understand the vitriol towards Mick Cronin as an option if Stevens and May end up not taking the job.

Unless it's just a verbal agreement, which in case if I was the AD I would probably want to have conversations with backup plans at the very least in case the verbal agreement had fallen short. 

Just like in recruiting, verbal agreements between coach and university probably get rescinded a lot more than we maybe think.

Also, Eric had a blurb earlier along the lines of someone within IU circles reached out saying there was a verbal from the trustees. He replied you spoke with a trustee and he said no but person x did and they’re close with person y.
