Not saying Goodman doesn't have sources but stating Coach X won't be IU's next coach takes zero knowledge of what is happening, literally every person on the planet minus one will not be the next IU basketball coach.

  An easy way to sound more informed than one actually is, is to state as fact  unlikely names as absolutely out. Chances are he is correct and sounds connected, if he ends up being wrong, it's easy to say things quickly changed, or my source was mistaken.

Please ignore the Jeff Goodman tweet. He does not have Indiana sources, no one besides Zach Osterman has Indiana sources straight from Dolson. Goodman is connected yes, but not to Indiana athletics. Yes Goodman broke the Archie news, but that’s because of Archie’s agent and Goodman are buddies.

2 names talked about by decent sized donors yesterday?  McCollum and Beard.  
 

McCollum?  Can he win here.  That was the discussion.  No more no less.  
 

Beard?  Extreme vetting to satisfy or disqualify.  They care about the situation, and not the loudest 5% against.  No more, no less.  
 

Any talk of x candidate being certain or disqualified today I would say is premature in any strong direction.  I am not saying others aren’t still involved, but those names were the convo.  It is still not that deep.

IU is very seriously considering Chris Beard. I’m not saying it’s a done deal. But people saying they won’t do it are just wrong. He is very much a candidate and at this point very much at the top of the list. I would say the reason it wouldn’t be Beard at this point is that he gets a better offer than that IU doesn’t offer.

I would have absolutely zero issues with that. He committed the grave sin of recruiting in 21st century high-level college basketball, though, so IU won’t even have him on the list. Another “most virtuous” banner incoming.

He could win here and win big. Problem is…can he win and win big here in years 1 and 2? If he doesn’t, he’s toast.

I just don’t believe at this stage he has the experience and inner-workings to navigate the portal and do an overnight turn around. It’s a huge gamble.
