Yeah NIL (which UCLA lacks) and UCLA moving to the B10.

All true but he still has to want the IU job. Unless somethings changed personally to where he wants the IU job unlike 4 years ago then I don’t see him taken the IU job

I think Cronin would take the IU job if offered for the two above mentioned reasons…that weren’t issues 4 years ago.

What’s the problem? Raining on your Brad Stevens parade?

Sorry?

Not trying to start an argument but we don't know that they even got to the vetting process last hire. It could've been that Beard had a pretty strong inclination that UT was opening up and he told the search committee (I guess Dolson since no committee was hired) that he wasn't interested. Could also be that Dolson didn't even inquire about Beard. All of those could be true and not many of us will ever know the truth.

This is a good point that I am not sure has been mentioned yet.  I remember there were pretty strong rumors he was a strong TX lean and the "we were not interested anyway" comments could be from vetting, partial vetting or just what you say when you come in 2nd.

Or it's time to go find another forum. You aren't going to force through sheer will your opinion on everyone else. Either it's being an antagonist you love, or you're in the wrong group.

Sure, if that's what he gives you. But competing for Pac 12 titles isn't as good as it sounds - that league was so weak. In the last four years, he had two really good years and two years pretty similar to IU's last couple years under Woodson (and yes - I realize that one of those years he was a bubble teams that snuck in and went on a tournament run, but I'm not big on hiring based off one-off tournament runs).  His success at UCLA is a lot more like Crean at IU.

There's an awful lot of projected improvement to get him to competing for Big 10 titles nearly every year.

That’s not entirely fair to Cronin. The guy has made the tournament like 75% of seasons as a head coach, Crean was like 33%. They’re gonna make it this year and would have Covid season. That’s 14/15. Now an argument can definitely be made being essentially .500 in the tournament with 4 SS and 1 FF is underachieving I guess, but he’s been far more consistent as a head coach than Crean.

Cronin always finishes in the top half of the conference and mostly top 4 as well. I wouldn't hate a Cronin hire, but I wouldn't be busting out my "We're Back" shirt yet either.

Not even close. Crean’s average B10 finish even if you exclude his first 3 years was something like 8th or 9th. Cronin hasn’t finished worse than 5th in any conference he’s coached in since 2012.

What is your proof though? Stevens is as real of a candidate as Beard, Huss, Brownell, Cronin, etc etc etc. Half of the guys we discuss aren't even real candidates that Scott is even thinking about, but we still discuss them. Why is it that you dictate that Stevens is so far from a real candidate we can't discuss him? Heck I heard Phill Jackson was a candidate let's talk about him? People can discuss any candidate they want weather they are real candidates or not. Don't need you just crapping on the conversation because you don't like it.

Well.....except Turgeon apparently

If he feels the same about it as he did 4 years ago then I don’t see any way he takes the IU job.   Last cycle I told the people that started the candidates thread they could leave off Cronin.   I deliver mail in Martinsville and know someone with a really close connection to him.   They showed me some interesting texts from him on his thoughts on the IU situation.  However that was 4 years ago and maybe some things have changed.   I guess I could go across town and ask about this year but since I switched routes I’m not on that side of town

Greg McDermott would kill it at IU.  I watch alot of Big East games (follow Butler also) and he’s the real deal.  Great demeanor, gets the most from his players, could handle the spotlight.  Also, my 2 cents on Brad based on my observations as someone who knows him and also those who know him better.  He’s very, very  unlikely to come back to the college game—even to IU.

Curious.  I flew down to a FF once with one of his former professors at Depauw who still kept in contact with BS.  This was many years ago and she said some things that always made me doubt if he would ever come back to coach.  But the stories from 4 years ago also seem to make some sense so I am curious if you think things got far enough last time that we discussed money and term?  Did we extend an offer? Did they take the family vote?

That’s exactly how I’d feel. At this point finishing above .500 in the B1G and making the tournament every season comfortably would feel like night and day to the last decade. Yea Cronin is meh from an excitement perspective, but maybe he takes everything he’s done and learned, combines it with our resources and takes another step as a coach. We could do way worse than Cronin.

I'd take him in a heartbeat over three or four other names that have been mentioned on here.
