Silat Player Posted February 22 Posted February 22 19 minutes ago, bobknightsghost said: I never said they weren’t. I was arguing that he would produce similar results to Tom crean. And someone said he would be better than that. Tom crean got fired one year removed from a big ten championship and a sweet sixteen for having a season like Cronin had last year. If crean wasn’t good enough, don’t hire Cronin. I will never understand these type of arguments. Tom Crean got fired for a lot of things. But his inconsistency was one. His last 6 years, Crean finished 5th, 1st, 8th, 7th, 1st and 10th in the B1G. Like everything else about his tenure at IU, he was massively schizophrenic and inconsistent. When he won the B1G, he proved that he could never get past the Sweet 16. His recruiting was also massively trending down at that point. Crean had shown the world who he was by then - a mediocre coach. str8baller 1

Lose the state of Indiana high school coaches and your not going to last long as the IU head coach. I know this is true, but I hate it. Indiana high school coaches should have no bearing on IU basketball coaching. Indiana high school recruits decisions should have no bearing on IU basketball. We want a national program not a regional program. I couldn't care less if a recruit is from Indiana or Uranus. Rant over. Home Jersey, MikeRoberts, Ctf9 and 2 others 5

McCollum doesn’t.. yet. That’s all I was saying.

My answer is because I’d rather take a risk on a guy like McCollum who could be the next A tier coach than hire a guy who we already know has peaked at B tier. It’s completely illogical to say the 53 year old winning 69% of his games at UCLA with 3 sweet 16s and 1 final four in the past four season has “peaked at B tier” but the dude with less than 1 year of coaching experience in D1 basketball “could be the next A tier coach.” He has quite literally never experienced anything like the high stakes fishbowl that is IU basketball or even anything close to P5 basketball. This time last year he was coaching a D2 school in a 2,500 person gym.

We know what Cronin is, and I’m hoping for better.

Crean’s last four years at IU he went 17-15, 20-14, 27-8, and 18-16. Cronin has lost more than 12 games in a season once in the last 15 seasons. I guess he’s Crean if you make Crean’s bad seasons better and his good seasons just as good or better. He had a bad year last year because UCLA wasn’t taking NIL seriously enough and people act like that nullifies his impressive career. Hoosierfan2017 1

Popular Post Uspshoosier Posted February 22 Popular Post Posted February 22 Whichever college basketball coach is hired to take over the IU program , after the initial disappointment by some that it wasn’t their guy, IU and their new coach will be in position to be an actual college basketball program again ran by someone who loves college basketball and give the fans something to look forward to. Might not be a home run however whenever the coach is hired he instantly becomes the best hire IU has made in 4 years and possibly the last 8 years. I’m not worried at all about the next coach Banksyrules, JustWinBaby, Ghost of Rick Majerus and 16 others 18 1
