Well according to Trillys discord there’s some plane activity they are tracking and Stevens was just spotted in Philly.

Saw that photo. He's apparently at the St Joes game. Scouting for the Cs or potential transfer portal nominees for IU?

Do NBA gms typically go on scouting trips?

My last Beard post
I do not think he is coming because of the incident. I think if he was just an alcoholic, he would seriously be considered. If he is hired, to me, that means SD, the BoT, and Whitten were ok hiring him. That would be good enough for me.
Only time will tell
Yep but they won't imo. They will take a less superior guy just because he is pure as the driven snow. Drew, bead, and pearl are all guys we could probably get iu will never hire. If we are doing this again in 5 years iu has only itself to blame

After a little break of about 5 years this coaching search has motivated me to come back to see if this board has gotten any smarter than in the past. How’s everyone been? It feels good to be back.

I have it on good authority that Tracy Stevens has been spotted shopping for horse farms around Bloomington.

What are the chances that McCollum somehow stops being elite by going to Indiana? With Indiana’s resources, they can easily provide him with a staff and budget to win right away.

We are taking a chance with this hire no matter what. I’m sorry but the Stevens, May, Drew's, and Self’s aren’t walking through this door. They just aren’t. Neither is Otz. Why? They have everything they need to win championships and make lifechanging money.

Everyone keeps harping about a “proven coach”….
Ben MCollum is 418-94 in his career! 32 wins and 7 losses in TOURNAMENT GAMES!!! People questioned how he would translate to D1….. he’s 24-3 in his 1st season with his D2 guys… the guy can flat out coach. He’s not Archie Miller.

who are the realistic “proven guys”? They’re Beard & Cronin….. we won’t hire beard.

Water always finds it level and none of these guys are going to somehow become elite by having the Indiana job. If that was the case, then what happened with Tom Crean, Archie Miller, and Mike Woodson?

I’ll take the guy who has proven himself to be elite, at multiple levels. Been a long time since Indiana has had a weapon roaming the sidelines.

Drake went 28-7 last year and 27-8 the year before. It’s not like he stepped into a wasteland of a program. He’s in his first year in D1. How many top 25 teams has he even played at this point? Isn’t his team also the slowest paced team in the entire country? Cronin has won 69% of his games overall as well as 69% of his conference games at UCLA. He’s been to the sweet 16 or better 3 of the last 4 years. Even if McCollum doesn’t flop at the P5 level, what are the odds he delivers better results than that? He’s an absolutely huge risk that IU shouldn’t have to take.

Not sure where the idea comes from that Dolson wouldn’t have “retired” Woody mid-season unless he already has his man lined up. IMO that was Dolson trying to get ahead of Assembly Hall becoming a zoo before the Michigan game. That’s it. I don’t buy the logic that making the announcement mid year was in any way “tipping our hand” and giving other schools time to work out an extension that wouldn’t have already been getting done. IMO it was strictly about the home environment and nothing to do with Woody “giving us the finger” as Kathy stated or indicative that Dolson - in February - already has his candidate lined up.

Yea the whole way that was handled from the announcement to the reports Woody wanted a fifth year (delusional much) screams there wasn’t much in place beyond not letting each home get worse. If Woody really went into it thinking he could announce and get a fifth year it speaks to total disfunction behind the scenes. My guess is once 1 & 2 were crossed off the list, the real search began in earnest. Wouldn’t be surprised at more agent nonsense leaking now that Dusty is off the table. JMO

In arguably the most important hire in our school’s history I just don’t understand why anyone would consider McCollum. A coach who has hardly coached multiple D1 games let alone Quad 1 games. Serious question. How many quad 1 games has he coached in his career? We need someone that is close to a sure thing. McCollum may end up being a great coach, but he could also end up being a complete dud like so many other up and coming coaches. Indiana can’t afford to find that out.

Oh no…are you one of those who were alarmingly obsessed with Crean and Archie back in the day?

What do you mean? They just had lost their coach (Devries) and roster!!! Highlighted by the fact that he had to start 4 D2 transfers…..And again, pace being used against him without any useful context, whatsoever. They get more shots than their opponents and are far more efficient than their opponents. They shoot almost exclusively 3’s and shots at the rim.

With Cronin we know our floor. We also know we aren’t getting an elite coach.

After his recent comments, I don’t think he handles the fishbowl well.

He’s beating Miami earlier when they had Larranaga, and has road wins at Vanderbilt and Kansas State.

What he’s doing this season alone is far more impressive than what Cronin is doing at UCLA.

With Cronin we are very likely a continuation of the current iteration of UCLA… that’s fine. But that’s not what we’ve all been hungry for. We’ve been wanting a climb back to being elite.

Our fans simply don’t get it. We think that we are going to go steal an elite winning coach from another school. That’s not happening! That line of thinking is what cost us Dusty May. Whoever takes the shot first is going to reap the rewards.

I’m lukewarm on Cronin btw. Wouldn’t be upset, wouldn’t be thrilled. I’d bet my house that we’ll be hiring a new coach inside 5 years.

Not too strange with the scheduling. Indiana wants to be in big games, on TV, in large crowds when they can. Especially with the new era of college athletics starting this July, Indiana wants to be a national brand.

I could see Hulls and Calbert being retained. Everyone else though, I’m not buying it. The GM role is becoming popular in MBB and WBB. It’s basically what Sleepy Armond Hill is. A fancy title for an advisor to the program.

I have no idea what Armond Hill does, but I can guarantee you it is nothing remotely approximating the duties of a modern MBB college GM. Those guys coordinate recruiting, manage NIL negotiations, etc. I am 99.9% sure Armond is doing none of that.

In a vacuum? Same chances as any other mid major darling.

If you’re really into him and think he has that special sauce, then maybe that ups the odds. But almost every coach in the B1G will be better than the ones in his current conference. He’ll also have to navigate recruiting at Indiana which will be different than anything he’s ever done.

Welcome back. No, most are still falling for the same rumors of the past.  I’m still here looking just in case I’m wrong lol.
