You can only go by what you hear and Ole Miss was always a foot in the door and he has been looking to move up since he signed.  Ole Miss had nothing to lose by hiring him to lead their program with hardly any college basketball history.    People got mad the last IU hiring cycle when he was eliminated from the hot board when people reported IU wouldn’t touch him because of skeletons in his closest.   Texas did hire him and it backfired on them.  Lucky from him the SEC has programs in it that overlook things that some programs just won’t overlook.  Not sure how much more needs to be said about it.   National media reported awhile back after the incident that they expected him to get a job again however it would be highly unlikely he would be hired by any major program outside the SEC.  Things can change and never say never however in my opinion you will continue to see programs pass on him especially outside the SEC

I'm looking at ole miss as a get right stop for Chris! I could be way off, but he is way too damn good of a coach to be in SEC PURGATORY forever!

And it’s really disappointing as there is a bit of a double standard.  If you turn a blind eye to the most heinous crimes that both Tom Izzo and Bill Self have, that is ok.  I am not condoning him putting hands on his wife.  He should get his @$$ kicked for that.  But both Self and Izzo helped minimize and eliminate the same crime for their players as well as worse crimes.  I get so annoyed with the holier than thou approach when turning a blind eye to the degree those have is ok.  Either we have morals or we don’t, and shouldn’t get to pick and choose when we should.  IMO

Remember what I said this morning

I was just reading how bad he is against quad 1 games. These same people who say Woodson can’t beat good teams are all saying Chris Beard. Sounds like he just beats up on weaker people, I mean teams.

He coaches at Ole Miss. He took Texas Tech to their first final four in school history.

Funny thing, I didn't want him last time. Weird, I know! I also said I was letting the Beard thing die because he is too decisive!

Stevens or McDermott BABY!

Beard is a hell of a coach.

But he's one that is a very risky hire for a program that can draw interest from other coaches that are quality coaches.  As has been said prior, IU vetted him prior to the last hire and it never got past that stage because the general feeling is he has a drinking issue.  He made himself less hireable after the incident at Texas.  He's not going to move directly from Ole Miss to a top paying job unless either more time passes without incident.

JMO

And herein lies the conundrum.  Can we draw interest from quality coaches?  This IS our 6th head coach hire since the turn of the century.  I am not sure we should maintain the same approach that has led us here since RMK left every few years.  Something has to give.

It seems pretty certain that SD told donors and BOT to shut up. At that point, all the buzz was Stevens. After that our reliable sources here got no more information. If I’m SD, why would I quiet people down (which he did) if they were way off the scent? I’d only do it if they were sharing legitimate information.

What do you think they were posting that was legitimate?

Chris beard is 5-7 against quad 1 at Ole miss

mike Woodson is 3-11 against quad 1 at IU

that comparison is not a good one

Yeah that's what I've always felt with Beard. We just can't hire a guy who is essentially already on strike 2.

You'd have to fire him if he does something like come to a rolling stop, gets pulled over at 3 AM, and blows a .12.

If his incident at UT had occurred 10+ years ago and he had stayed completely clean since then, yeah you can make the call if you're IU because he's demonstrated he can stay out of trouble.

But we're just not at that point yet. More time needs to pass to determine if you can trust him.

Whitten is the one that will decide the morals of hiring Chris Beard and it obviously won't be any of us.

I can't imagine it is signed off on but he is definitely a great coach on the court
