General Coach Candidate News

Yep. Buzz, McDermott and Cronin all fit that description much more neatly than McCollum. McCollum is basically a lotto ticket candidate - you could nab yourself one of the best coaches, but it could also not work out here.

I am a big fan of his and personally would be excited about the hire, but don't think the timing makes sense for IU in all likelihood this time around. Because exactly as Scotty R rightly said, we should prioritize consistent P5 success in this next hire.

Yes, what IU needs after the last 2 hires is a known not a gamble.

I said we should’ve considered him four years ago. He’s the best X’s and O’s coach in the country. Glad he’s passing his Drake internship for folks to come around.

Love McCollum. He’s too risky though. Dolson has to get this one right. Needs a proven P5 winner.

The landscape has changed with NIL and the portal. Most currently employed P5 winners do not need an IU-level position to be successful. There’s a reason the SEC is the best basketball conference right now - excess football money being thrown elsewhere. Kentucky didn’t get the pool of coaching candidates last year that they would’ve 10+ years ago. I don’t think UNC and Duke would have the same pull these days either.

Old Forrester 1920

Wild Turkey Rare Breed

both $50-55.

Those two and a cheaper big bottle from Costco for mixed drinks, and you’ll never need to buy anything else.

Just my opinion.

Those are great  bottles, but to say you’ll never need to buy anything else?  I’ve really screwed up then, I have over 90 open bottles…

What are peoples' thoughts on Tommy Lloyd?  He has a great record at UofA.

I like him, surprised he hasn’t come up, but I have read in a couple places he may be waiting for Gonzaga once Few is done.

I don’t disagree and if we can’t pull a proven P5 winner then I hope McCollum is the guy.

It’s gonna be Dusty May…..

But if the 90 million talks are real…..

1. Stevens 2. Oats

Then for me:

3. McCasland
4. May
5. Lloyd
5b. Otzelberger
6. Beard
7. Golden
8. Pearl
9. Drew
10. McCollum

11. Smart

12. Few

13. Gates

14. Hoiberg/Collins

15.Cronin

Sent from my iPad using BtownBanners

Except for Beard, I like this list. The order of the top 4 really works for me.

The guy is a winner, but he’s beaten nobody. I think there is a parallel with Cig, but Cig had to play some better teams. McCollum has beaten nobody, ever, and walked into a great situation at Drake. Even with his “D2” players. I’d be happy with him, but i think some people are being blinded by the record. This will be a hot take, but McCollum at the D1 level reminds me of Archie. *Ducks*

Takes over a program that wins, continues to win, gets promoted. He makes a run in March and McCollum is gonna have the same heat Archie did.

Lloyd would be better served to stay at Arizona.

Any thoughts on Tommy Lloyd?  Yeah I know he is going to go back to the Zags or he gets paid a lot there but I wondered how their NIL was if Ballo left.  Relatively new as HC but at a P5 school he has done very well

True, but Gonzaga is a cult. I was born in Spokane. Lloyd was there for two decades and is from WA.

I hitch my wagon to a school that plays football.

IMO when IU fans talk of Stevens they think it’s 2015 not 2025. Stevens most successful college teams were 15 years ago now! He hasn’t coached college in 12 years. The guy will never live up to the expectations even if we could hire him with a record contract.

Plus let's not forget, Stevens has won as many NCAA championships as I have.   He's not The Pope.  :)

Dusty has done an amazing job in a single year.  We missed the boat I am afraid.

Patience is a virtue. It’s been 25 years, so what’s a few more days. Dolson knows what he’s doing

I get what you’re saying but I think when Stevens is hyped up over and over and over for three days straight the patience wears thinner and thinner as we get more and more anxious.

I asked this about Dusty before but I'll ask again. Do you think SD would be hesitant to hire another alumn and his friend knowing there's a real possibility he'd have to fire him? The optics of firing back to back alumni wouldn't be good at all. And personally for Scott, firing a friend wouldn't be great either. Clearly there's a chance they ride off into the sunset together as well.

We have stop worrying about the "optics" BS.  You what bad optics are -- getting pummelled by UofI, et.al.  Good optics -- hanging banners.  Everything else is just noise.

Looking at Drake's scores, I see a whole lot of games (including against Miami (FL), Vanderbilt, and a couple of  others with points scored in the 80's.  I know some are concerned about tempo and pace, but I just don't think that's an issue.  I think he'd be terrific here.
