General Coach Candidate News

But for your criteria you said you wanted to be relevant again and compete for conference championships and make the tourney before we go for national titles.  Buzz would come in and compete for conference titles and make the tourney.  He has done it at every stop.  3 straight tourneys at Virginia tech is impressive.   The dude is a grinder and has a love for the history of college basketball    Even if he isn’t the guy to get national titles he would be the guy to make this program an actual basketball program and leave it better for the next person who could take them to the next step if Buzz couldn’t.   I personally think if he was at IU that he would be able to lead IU far in the tourney

Yep. Buzz, McDermott and Cronin all fit that description much more neatly than McCollum. McCollum is basically a lotto ticket candidate - you could nab yourself one of the best coaches, but it could also not work out here.

I am a big fan of his and personally would be excited about the hire, but don't think the timing makes sense for IU in all likelihood this time around. Because exactly as Scotty R rightly said, we should prioritize consistent P5 success in this next hire.

Well Duke has had 5 titles and Kansas 2 titles in last 25 years. Saying Brad can get a title or two in 25 years isn’t that crazy. Less crazy than saying he will be out catch in 2025 lol

Competing for a conference title and top 3 seed every year would probably be what I say. A single elimination tourney can be very flukey but I’d want us in the mix every year. This would just be for Brad because i think he’s that good of a coach and with NIL you can truly build whatever team you want

I'd say expectation for the next coach, Brad or someone else, should be ranked in the top 25 and competing for the conference title every year. Wouldn't say top 3, top 4, etc. Too many variables to be that prescriptive IMO.
Understand there will be good years - where you win the conference and make a run in March - and other years where you're building or "down" and maybe bounce early in March or underachieve in B10 play. Over a 4 year period, you're probably entitled to one down year and should have one "good" year. Context is important though... if there are obvious red flags, cut bait when it's clear it won't work out. Equally, with as big of an NIL budget as IU provides, etc. fans should expect to see results quickly from the next coach IMO. Year 1 or year 2 need to be good as in competing for the B10 title and ideally a second weekend in March.

Agreed. And if you set those expectations for Brad, with all our NIL and resources, I’d say ranked top 25 all year wouldn’t be too much to ask. And making the tournament every year and having more tourney wins than losses after 3/4 years. I don’t think that’s too much to ask for for him or any other BIG hire

I don’t like mine super hot, it’s a personal preference. I get it though for sure. Sweet spot for me is like 95-110 proof.

Old Forrester 1920

Wild Turkey Rare Breed

both $50-55.

Those two and a cheaper big bottle from Costco for mixed drinks, and you’ll never need to buy anything else.

Just my opinion.

Buzz Williams has made it past the Sweet Sixteen once and has only won a single conference title.

No.

I guess but making a sweet 16 at a place like Virginia Tech is impressive.  Not sure when you are at a place like Virginia tech you are expected to be competing for conference titles.   A&M not really known for being a basketball powerhouse and he has done some good things there in his time.  15-3 conference record and finishing second seems impressive to me.  I get it though IU should be in a place where they can do better however from my point of view he is the exact kind of coach IU needs if the top guys say no.   College basketball grinder

No.

4 S16s, 1 turned into an E8. Has A&M rolling this year. Also turned around VT.

You give him the competitive advantage of IU's NIL resources, he can get you where he's been and further in March IMO.

Is he the best coach on the list? No, but he is a guy who can inject life into the program and will be everything people wish for in a HC as a brand ambassador for the university. He has shown he can turn around P4 programs, which is what we need, and he's capable of leading a team that has a shot in March. I don't think a F4 on the resume is a requirement for IUBB in 2025. All you can do is give yourself a shot. I'd roll with Buzz and be excited coming off Woodson. Not sure if he leaves Texas A&M but wouldn't be upset one bit if he did. We'd have a pretty good idea about the next 6 years or so.

Why not buzz?

I like Buzz, and think he’s done well at some tough spots. That said, I’m guessing A&M would overpay potentially to keep him beyond where we would be will to go for someone in his tier. They have infinity money.

Does anyone else find it interesting AP2345 nor Herry have said anything the last 5-6 hours? Jerry isn’t as active as AP is but I absolutely could be overthinking the silence. I know Chris is with his wife so his silence is an excused silence haha

Hasn’t been much new news since this morning so I don’t see anything off with it

I asked this about Dusty before but I'll ask again. Do you think SD would be hesitant to hire another alumn and his friend knowing there's a real possibility he'd have to fire him? The optics of firing back to back alumni wouldn't be good at all. And personally for Scott, firing a friend wouldn't be great either. Clearly there's a chance they ride off into the sunset together as well.

I doubt anyone who isn't an IU fan would think twice about firing back to back alumni. Maybe the sort of thing Purdue fans troll IU fans about. Wouldn't let that influence the decision. Really wish we just hired Dusty last offseason.
