Indiana’s in the market of hiring a coach who can be great at IU.

It has been pretty confidently  reported that Mark Few has inquired about the job. NIL has changed the landscape for players and coaches.

You guys can't convince me that having Beard getting hammered publicly in Bloomington would turn out well at IU

We all know that Beard would win here. BUT...this is a not a place for a coach that has struggled with alcohol in the past. Not with the pressure that comes with this gig.

Mark Few has been reported on about a hundred jobs over the years. Yet he never moves.

Out of all the names thrown around, I probably believe that one the least.

My point was did dusty take the Michigan job for a 4-5 million dollar buyout versus a 8-10 million dollar buyout so he could slide over to Iu or just because he doesn’t like river people?

Thats my belief.  Coupled with he and Dolson talking/negotiating last offseason.

The way I read it, I think Kelsey’s buyout would be 8-9mm this year.

Assuming Louisville offered something similar to May and knowing IU could be looking for a new coach this offseason, my gut tells me May took the job that would be less of a hurdle to get to IU.

Yeah 100% it's Stevens not Dusty. I don't really know this but just wanted to put an absolute on it like VO did

Hey I’d love to be wrong but I think the third time around I’m not believing it

Did trilly say something recently? Hoosiers recruiting on instagram posted “things with Brad Stevens are heating up”

full disclosure i don’t think the account is very reliable but just wondering why they think that / where the read that at. The only thing i don’t have is trilly.

Would love Cronin, he's my 1b behind Otzelberger who I don't think would take the job.

Cronin would bring IU back to winning and competing for conference titles however most this fanbase would hate the hire.   After watching 8 years of whatever the IU program has put out I’m surprised he gets as much pushback as he gets.   Wouldn’t be my first choice however I would have no problem with him leading the program.   Makes the tourney every year and that is something this fanbase hasn’t experienced in a long time. Has had a winning conference record 11 out of the past 12 years and the one that wasn’t a winning conference record was 10-10.   I pointed out couple days ago IU has had 1 winning conference record in the last 9 years.     4 years ago he wanted no part of the IU job and called it a train wreck (saw the texts) however things change and with the NIL at IU I could see it happening this time around.

You can argue anything, but negotiation is about leverage. Dusty has two high profile schools with open offers to him so he held most of the leverage.

Dont disagree, just looking for more material on the reason for the "low" buyout.  I did look up Kelsey's at L'ville and it seems to be around $8.7 million after 1 year so in comparison his is indeed lower.  Still would love to know it was fully driven by May for another look at IU

I think the open IU job is going to get A LOT of guys raises in the next few weeks, if their agents are good...

This is what @Chris007 has been suggesting.  If it’s Brad, no harm in having the job open now.  If it wasn’t Brad, Dolson very well would’ve waited until the end of the season.    Opening the job know means schools are trying to lock down their coach.

I just don't think that would happen.

Nothing really. All he's basically said is if it's an NBA guy - he probably won't hear anything. Crazy no one knows who he is still.

I don't know anything about Trilly. But Stevens 100% has told people that he has "interest". But what does that mean exactly? I'm sure he and Scott have talked through intermediaries. He is going to want a lot to truly consider making the move. I'm not just talking money. I'm talking a GM for the program to help with recruiting. Potential roles with the university for his wife...etc.

Trilly hasn't. Rabby isn't downplaying things though. TBH things will stay the same for at least a couple weeks. Nothing concrete will be happening.

Appreciate your post, and it's giving me a chance to maybe clear some things up. I don't know Brad Stevens or anyone in his family. I never worked for or with Brad Stevens. I left the Celtics before Stevens got there, but many of the same people still work there and I have an understanding of how the team, ownership and operations work, etc..

I wasn't in basketball ops, but was in a role on the business side as close to basketball ops as you can be without being in it.

I spoke to a high-ranking Celtics person who is an NBA institution behind the scenes. I visited him shortly after Woodson was hired. I asked him if he thought Stevens would ever coach in college again, and it was an emphatic, laughing "No". He gave some reasons and the "no" was emphatic. There is more to it, but not going into all of the details.

For those that would reply, "well, Stevens wouldn't tell him if he was considering IU.", his "no" wasn't because he asked Stevens directly, you're not going to do that in that situation, it's because he has spent the better part of 10+ years working directly with him, working with Celtics ownership and executives, etc., etc. My person is an extremely trusted person in the NBA.

With that said, people change, times change and circumstances change. Based on what I know, I'd be shocked if Stevens coaches in college in the near future, but there are also things like the ownership situation that are different this time around. I'll just be shocked if it happens.

I got the laughing no from a former player on the back to back ff teams. A core group of coaches and players from those teams are very close. I’m very good friends with the players brother. We were never close like some say here.

If you look at Kathy’s last post in the FMW thread she says IU asked Woodson to wait but he chose not to. So take it FWIW

if you've driven through Louisville on 65... you've been to UL campus

The UL campus is so bad lol. Pretty nice athletics campus though despite the location and the Yum Center downtown is first class. Related since it's close to campus: I was stunned to learn that Churchill Downs is in the middle of...that area right in the middle of the city.
